Spraying Solarez

Has anyone tried spraying Solarez yet? If so, any tips, etc. on doing it like size of spray tip, psi, and so on? I apply it with a foam brush right now. Thanks,
Dave

So by the lack of response, one would assume, no one has tried it. Oh well, guess I'll give it a whirl on my own.
Thanks,
Dave

I guess I can give my limited experience. Solarez was just too thick for the equipment that I have, but I believe with a stronger compressor and good gun with a larger tip like a primer gun I could have made it work. I would like to pursue this more but will have to wait for extra funds to buy better equipment. I would be very interested in your results should you try

I don't use this system but I heard from a reliable CM friend that you can thin it with MEKP but you must clean your gun stat because MEKP sets off the Clear so you got to be very careful and quick to clean the gun.

A call to the OEM will be useful before doing this. I think is was 10% MEKP for a 1.0 mm tip.

None of their videos show it being sprayed.
I can only imagine the stink it would create if sprayed.
The stuff is nasty smelling and is just stinky and toxic as Bulldog adhesion promoter.

You cannot thin it with anything..... MEK acts as a hardener........... a call to Solarez.... talk to Gary............ reveals that the only way to thin it is to heat it..................

An old devilbis gun with a fluid tip and nozzle made to spray glue might work...........

Actually ... there is no reason to spray it............ I put it on in thin coats using a rubber glove......... great results.............

just ask me how

Just a couple things to point out before confusion or mis-information happens.
MEKP is not used as a thinning agent, it is used as a catalyst to cause the resin to cure when tinting or coloring Solarez resin. As soon as you mix it in, the cure clock starts to tick and it will cure up, pot life depends on how much you mix in. They make a thinner/cleaner that is plant based and bio-degradable that works well and not as dangerous as acetone. I have thinned it, and it applies better and smoother, but it seems to make the surface tacky afterwards for a day or 2. Heating up a 4oz jar in the micro for about 20 seconds seems to thin it well, but the surface of the cue must be warm (85-95 degrees) otherwise the finish will thicken as you brush it on.
Joey, if you think the resin smells, try the thinner...it really stinks.

Dave if the surface is still sticky the surfacing agents didn't rise you can smear some wax over it and hit it with more light for a few min then clean the wax off and it should be completely hard

I have a correction............ it seems that there are some people that are spraying Solarez............. ask around .......

I did, ....hence the title....????

Thanks for your assistance, helpful as always,.....
NP, I'll muddle along,

When I used to do ceramics, I used a glaze spray gun as the glaze was pretty thick stuff. As I remember, it didn't have much adjustability like on most spray guns, but it worked good for spraying glaze.

I usually let it turn for about a half hour in a cabinet heated to 90 degrees, so the surfacing agents should have risen by then. I think the thinner was rising to the surface also and had to evaporate, leaving a softer/tacky surface. Usually wait 2 days and it's fine. I now just heat unthinned resin, and use it and it comes out fine.
