Stakehorse Needed for John Schmidt

I hate to say it but I thought this was lame last time even when John himself posted. I'm sure he's a great guy but what is the state of pool and his life if he has to come to the AZ site to raise a grand to enter a tournament:confused: Sorry but I just don't get it.
If you just don't get it - then you never will. Asking to be staked has nothing to do with the state of his life. Anyways, I don't want to waste anymore time than I just did. :)

Well, I think JAM said it best in an earlier post. Many of the top pros have sponsors that pick up the tab for this sort of thing. Thus they can afford the travel, lodging, food, entry fees, etc. I don't think John has a sponsor.

I am also willing to bet the entry fee for this isn't cheap. I make good money in my job, but I know for a fact that I would not be able to afford the costs of traveling to and entering top tourneys (if I was eligible and played well enough that is). :D

Just my 2 cents.

My thought is "stakehorses" generally aren't complete strangers that you solicit on a public forum. Do you have friends, family, business acquaintances maybe????????

So you entitled a post disrespecting John "No Disrespect to John". This has proven to be a good business arrangement for John and for the backer(s) in the past. Why should a mutually beneficial business arrangement not be made?

If this does come from John, then it will get back to him that the AZ community is skeptical, and he'll come on and post, or call Purdman or something, and set the record straight, and you'll see that a lot of people on here would find his business proposal quite reasonable and appealing. If that doesn't happen, then I think this was a very weak attempt at scamming some pool fans out of a grand.

Actually a lot of people on here are John's friends and have helped him before. From what I have noticed on this forum in the time that I have been here is that it is like a small family with a few outcasts but mostly good and genuine people who love the game of pool.

This is NO scam... imo
The original poster HAS the money to put up for John himself, but the $10,000,000 is tied up in a bank in Nicaragua. I have sent him $9,300 in order to release the funds and I get 40% for helping out.
Doug

Doug,
Ha, ha, ha. You are getting taken to the cleaners. I'm getting 60% for helping out; and I only had to send $8,000. You are just not knowledgeable enough about this type of high-level finance.

Team Building

IMO: There is nothing wrong with team building. I have always liked being part of a team and the camaraderie that comes with it. You could even win a few $$ with not too much invested. Nothing wrong with having John S as your dog in the fight either. :D Aren't we just one big happy family?

Not sure why the message isn't coming from Pensacola but John doesn't type often or well. Those of us who have been on the net for years forget that there are still many who are not. I was on the net for years and a very poor two to four finger typist before landing a job requiring some typing skills. I now type at a screaming forty to fifty words a minute when I need to. Hu

I'm not buying this theory. I have 411 posts since August of 2006, every single one of them typed with TWO fingers :o !!! A keyboard isn't exactly rocket-science. I'm not takin' sides pro or con on this thread, but I would think if a person wanted $1000 cash from some hard-working stranger he hasn't or may never meet face-to-face, he should at least have the courtesy to get on the site and ask for it himself. Just my opinion.

In this case, "You Thought Wrong". A lot of us love this game my friend. We support the players, cuemakers, case makers, and each other. John is the kind of person we want representing us so we try to help out. Sorry if you don't understand that.

poverty level in America = under $18,000 year

Touring Pro player expenses of traveling/entry$/lodging = $40,000 year

3 - 1st place finishes = $30,000
2 - 2nd place finishes = $10,000
3 - 3rd place finishes = $10,000
9 - 4th through 12th finishes = $8,000
TOTAL winnings =$58,000
subtract expenses -$40,000

Thats if you play that good.

Without a stakehorse/sponsor would we have pro players? or pro tourneys?

what we really need is for John to bust onto this thread like Bill Brasky at a scotch distillers convention and get the facts straight about all of this staking business

Let's say that we were Subway, or Anheuser-Busch, or HP, or any one of thousands of high-profile corporations instead of AZBilliards forum members. Would it be lame then?

John's just being smart. Why absorb all the risk and cost personally when it can be spread out among people who want to see him do well? That's why players have sponsors in the first place. In the case of pool, sponsorship is not so easy to come by. Using the forum to drum up sponsorship is a great idea, IMHO.

I know Bill Brasky...He once cleared all nine balls on the break, then the cue ball skipped onto the next table and cleared them too! :D

What's the view like from those high horses?

Seriously though, some people are not good with money, simple as that, it comes in and goes right back out, make 40k, spend 60 etc....

This concept is hard for alot of people here to understand, you do your 9-5, RSP contributions, pay your taxes, pay your mortgage, renegotiate your mortgage, college funds for the kids, half price cereal at Costco, and on and on and on.....

Some people choose to live differently, many pool players choose to live differently, a lifestyle that doesn't fall into the aformentioned example

and having said that, Staking trustworthy players often pays off, but it's also alot of fun

Are you guys talking about Bill Brasky? I went out for a drink with Bill Brasky once. We couldn't find a bar he liked, so we stood in a construction site while they built a bar around us. The day it opened, we ordered a drink, and then Bill burned the place to the ground. He said "always leave a place like you found it."
