staying at the table after shooting a safety

It depends. For myself, he made his shot. Sit down. Doesn't matter if he has done a good Safety or not, his turn at the table is over. Take a quick glance and go away.

A few years ago, Reffing at the Westerns in Edmonton, I had one room all to myself, over 100 tables. Kept a guy running as we were short handed, and someone always had their cue in the air.

One whiny team, I ended up just staying close by as they kept me running. Always *****ing about some player.

Well, they started *****ing because the opponents kept checking the table to look at close shots so they may have to call a ref to watch. I told em that was their right to check shots and call a Ref if they liked.

And then in retaliation, the team started calling me to watch shots that didn't need to be watched, just to mess with the other team, and hold things up.

They ended up being disqualified for having a Master on their team, changing his name and so on. So they ended up getting theirs.

Serious, the worst team that I have ever come across. If I had wanted a job in Day Care, I would have got one.

Not much more to be said except that only the mentally weak get upset over stuff like this. Worry about your own game. The player checking his safety is obviously concerned with his own, you can learn something from him.
 
I'm surprised that this thread came up. This is one of my number one complains in pool. And it's clear that Banks is one of the people that pull this stunt. This foolishness is right up there with those who like to pick up the chalk and chalk their stick when it not even their turn at the table.

Ok I give you that i could be perspective a lot of things are so that's kind of week, but it is full out disrespectful that I have to now wait, walk around you or walk around the table just cause you want to know what I have, YOU'LL KNOW WHEN I SHOOT.And it shouldn't matter if it's 1 second, all me 100% uninterrupted access to the table as soon as those balls stop moving.

I love when people say "oh but it's only this or it's only that" yeah well if it's only 5 sec then why do you need it? why is it important to you but pointless to me. Be a gentleman, play your shot, walk to your seat and sit down... please, you have lost all control as to what happens next at the table so just sit down and watch it unfold then you can do whatever you want with your extra 5 sec when the other player extends that courtesy to you.

oh and while we at it stop putting down the damn chalk face down on the table, lol.

I don't have a problem with it.. but I'm not bothered by what my opponent does. I tend to worry about myself.

(Shouldn't you just sit down right away after you shoot your safety..............you don't need to follow the cue ball around the table. You will find out soon enough if your opponent can see the ball or not)

Ive been around this game a while, and have never heard or seen anyone EVER have an issue with this. Its pretty amusing to see who the impatient folks are. :thumbup:
Im thinking the folks that worry about stuff like this need to focus more on their play and less about ANYTHING that their opponent does as they walk away from the table. But who knows, maybe getting pissed at petty shit makes them play jam up....... :killingme:

Shrewd observation. IME those that freak about things like this are looking for a reason to lose instead of figuring out a way to win, it's a disease.
 
Since you didn't specify what game you were playing .... :grin:

In snooker, professional style, when there is a miss or a foul, the incoming player has several options:

Play as the balls are
Have his opponent play as the balls are
or
Have the balls replaced to their original positions and have his opponent shoot again

The referee replaces the balls and asks both players if they are satisfied the balls are back in their original positions.

So both players need to know the positions of the balls should they need to be replaced.

The one thing that irks me a little is if I hook myself, and my opponent will get out of his chair to come to the table to see how bad it is.

This weekend I'm in a big regional event. I bought some Predator chalk cheap and used a piece. Everytime I left the table I left the chalk on the rail. My oponent without fail brought the chalk to me everytime I stepped away. Even when it was nowhere near his shot . I'm baffled. Is this OCD?

When he's shooting a tough 7 late in the set I said, "Does the chalk really bother you that much?". Then he shot the 7 straight into the rail. I won 9 to 8....justice. Too funny.

When i miss, i leave the table. I expect the same in return. When i come to the table after my opponent misses, i shouldn't have to sit there and wait for him to ponder everything that went wrong.

Some people just need a minute. It wouldnt bother me unless it got too excessive.
