JB Cases

As many of you know I have been revamping Sterling Gaming's cue case line up for the past couple years. We have introduced the Wave Cases and the J.Flowers Tribute series. As well we have redone the interiors on most of our models and added new colors, new sizes, and new features.

So finally we are bringing them all together in a new website,

We will be adding a lot of new cases as well debuting prototypes there as well. Once in a while I will give away a free case on the blog to the folks who sign up through the comments so check in sometime.

I have the Wave (Black & Brown) and it is awesome as good as anything out there on the market. The interior of the case, IMO, is as good or better than cases at many times the price.

John, is there a case that is lightweight in nature? I'm usually the one that has to lug the doggone
thing around at tournament venues, and some of these cases are heavy. Keith usually carries a
cue with two shafts, breakcue, and jumpcue.

What's the lightest weight case? I actually prefer the plastic ones since they are usually the lightest
in weight, but if there's a nice leather one that is very lightweight, I'd like to check it out.

Welcome back, BTW :)

Oh, one little thing, John, and it's not a biggie, but that sig line of yours looks beautiful if you have
a huge monitor, but for those of us with only a 19-inch screen, I have to scroll left to right
every time you post in a thread. Is there a way you can take the cue case picture on the right
and place it below the cue case picture on the left in the sign line? Again, no biggie, but I hate
using the damn mouse. :o

Try one of his soft cases. I have an ostrich skin case that is light and the best case I have ever owned. JB put a lot of time and thought into making this case so the shafts and butts never contact the zipper when you take them out. It is a great case. Hell we live in the same vicinity so maybe our paths will cross one day and you can see for yourself. I am heading to Champions in Frederick this weekend.

Thanks for the great info. I hope we hook up someday, so I can see your case. That would, indeed, be cool! :)

does anyone know what the weight difference is between an instroke 3x5 and a wave 3x4 is?

That's a good question. I would think that case weight would be important to players who have to lug 'em around the tournament venues.

I've seen Earl Strickland bringing three cases to his designated table at tournaments. Rodney Morris, last time I saw him, had a HUGE case that must have weighed a ton. I would think that having those cue cases on your shoulder could interfere with your shooting, as it might put too much strain on the shoulder area.

I've usually bought cheap cases in the past, like 50 bucks for a vinyl case. They're lightweight and easy to lug around, but I may just spring for a real nice case for my honey. He deserves it. Maybe I will get it personalized with something like "Your Worst Nightmare" or "Doom."

Right on. A new number, I'll give them a call and see if they can fix me up with a couple of latches. I haven't received a return call from Cue Site and it would be a shame to have to throw away a $350 case because I can't find a latch.

I have a jb. Prototype that's very similar to the case ryan mccreesh carries and I love it! Its soft and supper light. This model has the most pockets I have ever seen! Its made out of backpack material and allows me to personalize it with TAR patches and Hustlin patches! I added a 8 ball key chain to the zipper pull and a eiffle tour key chain from my visit.

I am nervous about the lack of a hard shell but I'm pretty careful so its a mute point. The other concern is ease of access with the butterfly soft case. My case is next to the home pool table and it sucks how much harder it is getting the cues out to practice.

The other short coming is its inability to stand up! It is a trade off you make when selecting a case.

Any way just some food for thought!

The Wave cases are pretty light at 3.8lbs. Also they wear lighter as the straps are ergonomic non-slip backpack straps.

I would definitely recommend a butterfly or soft case though for the lightest weight. If you are traveling by car then you can be more careful with where you pack the case.

When you see my sig - which is the brown case at teh moment do you see the pictures stacked on top of each other or side by side? I make them 400 pixels wide so that they shouldn't cause scrolling.

In this thread though I was lazy and borrowed the banners from the Sterling website and didn't resize them and they are 800 wide which might cause side scrolling. Although it doesn't on my little laptop. I will fix it.

I guess the lightest cases are plastic butterfly (soft) cases - around 2lbs.
My JB 4x8 commer butterfly is done in thick leather - around 4lbs 3.7oz
My JB 2x4 Flowers is sturdy and heavy - around 5lbs 14.5oz
A 2x4 Wave (not leather) or Whitten lite (leather) are 3.5 - 4.0lbs*.

All weights are with the case empty.
* As expressed by both manufacturers, I don't have any of these two cases.

My suggestion is that if you need no impact protection get a soft plastic case. John's leather butterflies are a lot more protective but heavier.
If you need some protection a Wave case or Whitten lite are a good compromise in protection/quality/weight.
I guess John can make you a very light case if you want (new tubeless tube with thin leather?), but his standard models tend to be more protective and, therefore, slightly heavier.

Also, cues weight themselves quite a bit (around 3lbs for playing cue with 2 shafts + break cue + jump cue).

Hope this helps

Jenny... I think the 3x6 wave will be perfect for you. Good looking, very good protection, good pockets and very light weight. With the backpack straps and the very handy top handle you'll be good to go.
