stiffest and most solid cue that you've hit with???

I have owned and hit with a few Southwest and DPKs (many moons ago). Great cues but the hit was just TOO stiff for my tastes.

The stiffest for me.

I'd have to say my 2 Joey cues and Hunter Classic. After those this very old Southwest cue I sold a few years back. Pics aren't the greatest but you should get the Idea.

The maple/purpleheart one used to be mine, great hitting cue.

I've hit with roughly 15 -20 long enough to make a judgment. Stiffest/most solid hit of those was a Barnhart.

I have to say my masonh is the stiffest i have played with (the ebony/tulip). It has a ob classic shaft tapered to 12.5mm with a sniper tip. I have played with a Tasc, Erik Lee, Diveney, Josey, Dale Patten (Richie Florence cue), Lebow, Zac, and plenty of production cues.

Ebony southwest was the stiffest and hardest hitting cue i ever played with.
The 2nd shaft made of lakewood made it even more stiff.

dammit i hate to say it but two of my cues lmfao........

my personal player takes second.....a 3/8" ferruled 17oz cue i sold to a customer recently takes that cake tho.

I love stiff cues but the one I sold was way overbearing for me to ever want as a player but the customer loves it.

stiffness and solid-ness are not distinctly related tho, especially when taken that some very solid cues are not stiff at all and some don't care for stiff cues. To each his own.

The stiffest most solid cue I ever played with was not my favorite. It was a big fat house cue. There is a line you can cross where stiff and solid takes away from the cue instead of adding to it, and many house cues crossed that line. The next cues on the list would be carom cues or various sorts.

Cue maker's taper....

Eddie Prewitt's taper and Marcus Dienst taper is really stiff and delivers a very super solid hit.

this is by far the stiffest cue i have ever hit, it feels like the shaft is made of steel and every shot, a ping sound is heard!
2nd stiffest cue i have ever hit is a southwest, hands down to it

i am not sure we are all talking about the same thing when we say stiff.
Some people seem to use the word stiff to describe a hard hitting cue or one that feels hard. i have never been able to play with what I call hard hitting cues, this usually means cues with long tapered shafts,Which to me is not stiff

A Meucci is the furthest from stiff and not hard but not stiff.A southwest is a stiff hitting cue but not what I call hard.

To me a stiff tapered shaft is the easiest to play with. Therefore I like Southwest cues, schons,Scruggs new tapered cues,Bob Owens new taper is really great

Meucci and the long pro tapers are my least favorite, along with some biggername makers

Of course I am not a very good player,so my likes are not the same as a really good player.
When I designed the Deano cue we used the least pro taper we could and I found i played my best with it,I drew the ball easier and controlled the cue better everything.
Not everyone agreed

The stiffest I ever played was a Tim Scruggs. I didn't like it and sold it to a fellow who is quite happy and could give me the six ball.

To each his own.

I know I may get some haters here but IMO there is a difference between "stiff" and "solid" when it comes to the hit of a cue. One of the stiffest cues I have ever hit with is a Dale Perry. His stock shafts with his taper are very stiff. Almost TOO stiff for my liking. Just my 2 cents.

I would say out of the hundred or so cues I have owned since 1995 the stiffest would be a Shuler with the short piloted steel joint and a 13.25mm shaft. After that I would place the top ten order as follows:

1980's Joss West - Piloted Steel
1990's Black Boar - Piloted Steel
1990's Tascarella - Piloted Steel
1990's Schon - Piloted Steel
1998 Gina - Piloted Steel
2008 Josey - Flatface Radial
Mid to Late 90's Searing - Flatface 3/8-10
2002 SW - Flatface 3/8-11
2009 Kikel - Piloted Ivory 5-16/14 - 13.2mm Shaft
Early 90's Murrel - 3/8-10
