Straight Pool Rack / Pack bank shots

George also mentioned making one of the two outside balls on the row of four simply by hitting the rack hard. George was skeptical of it working more than rarely and so am I.
That’s my go to last ditch effort to save the run. Try to the predict the outside ball that will go. I’d say I get them maybe 2 out of 10 times, maybe a bit more. But when it does work, boy do I feel guilty continuing on.

Without a ball on the spot - 14 balls in the rack - the two shots I attempt when I just trying to run balls at home and I end up stuck like that are first the corner ball cross side with cue ball below the rack that poolmanis showed. The other isn't a bank just the simple hit the second ball and make the corner ball on the opposite side of the rack in the corner pocket. That goes with some frequency but you have to adjust where you hit the second ball depending on what angle you have.

99% of the time I don't have a ball on the spot when I'm trying those. Ball on the spot may affect the shot, can't say for sure.

Neither are reliable shots if you have a opponent.

Bob I thought you referred to the European players making balls out of " tapped rack", not sure they are banking anything?

In the May/June 1981 issue of Billiards Digest, George Fels diagrammed what he titled "Funny Farm Break Shots".

In addition to the shots mentioned here, he also gave the standard one pocket break which sometimes pockets a corner ball. I think that same ball can be pocketed straight in by shooting at the middle ball of the opposite side of the rack. Exactly where, I don't know, but I think the shot can be adjusted by the contact on that ball.

Like this? Alex incredibly made three balls in the lower left pocket. He barely got down on the shot so it didn't look like he was expecting much out of it.

made my video today, hope someone finds it helpful. It starts directly after my 56 run featured at 2022 straight pool challenge (you can check the table layout) and all my attempts are included. So you can get a picture about the possible percentage of these shots if you practice them :D

for the above ball from Alex the 9 balls have to be frozen (in my theory) so I used my MagicBallRack from 10Ball to accomplish that.

Does anyone know of any videos posted that show the corner balls or the front balls banking? I know they're low percentage shots, and I'd almost never play them in game play.

Straight in so far as I know.

^^ all the above shots included at my video. Didn't need more than 3 tries on any of them... (and the misses were pretty close but judge for yourself)

I noticed when Earl was making his attempts he got below the rack and instead of trying the corner ball cross side he just raked the balls and started over. He doesn't end up like that often enough to know the shot.
