Stretch marks on new Simonis 860 ?

when we did the bed, we just layed the cloth on the table and worked out all the wrinkles and with the palm of out hands pushed the cloth to the edge of the slate then stapled it.

i might be wrong, but i was told not to get simois too tight.

Your explanation of installing the bed cloth sounds like it would result in a very loose slow playing cloth, but maybe I am misunderstanding you.

It seems to me that most people make the mistake of not getting the bed cloth tight enough. Especially the Simmonis HR cloth. It is more difficult to stretch.

Now as far as the rail cloth, I try to get it tight but not so tight that it deforms the rails. I consider that the determining factor for tightness on the rails. As for the bed cloth, I get it as tight as I can, keep in mind though that I am not a pro installer. I defer to Glen and would follow his advice completely.

Do you mean shadows from under the cushions? If so I do not think they will go away, I think that is where the cloth was stretched unevenly, but I am not a table mechanic.

I usually get a stretch shadow or two around the side pocket areas. I used to have alot more of them all over the table but I have improved my cloth installation thanks to the DVD's and to some of the top mechanics of this forum.

Hi All, thanx for all the input / info. I'd love to give a copy of this DVD to my installer ! How can a colonial like myself (In Australia) get my hands on a copy ?

My installer spent like 2 hours putting the bed cloth down - round & round, side to side, un-staple / re-staple - stretch more here & there etc.

The only good thing is that my cloth is very tight. (my old 8 foot snooker table with 860 was too loose)

The bad things are the stretch shadows, loose cloth bubbles at some pocket mouths.
The deep arc of my slate at the pockets was something he really struggled with to cloth. The tables he normally does have shallow arcs / easier to stretch / install cloth around - especially with what he normally uses - Mitchell6811 cloth.

Cheers.

You can get the DVDs through seberts.com I believe, I don't know what Simonis has done with the distribution of the DVDs around the world, but I know there's some in Europe because I've gotten PM's from customers in that region thanking me for the DVDs as they've helped them out so much. Send serberts an email.

crikey - AU$91 delivered for both DVD's (pretty much same price seyberts or Aussie supplier)

Hmmmm..... woulda been a good investment BEFORE I got my table 2 weeks ago methinks ! doh.

Nice table. I'm anal and that would drive me crazy.

At least your table didn't give birth to a little 7 footer.

Now that can cause stretch marks.

I had my 9 ft table put together,,leveled and 860 cloth installed,, a few months ago. By pros from the area. I heard nothing but good things about them from across the state.

Im not complaining at all!!

It does have these shadows by the side pockets. I was very happy with the job,,and to be honest I didn't know it was even a problem. More for the mechanic than me,,because it does not bother me at all.

I will say,,when the table was first done,,and clean, clean clean!! lol It was a bit more noticeable. After a few months of play I don't think it has faded ,,,but more like the table has made it blend in better,,from getting marked up!! lol

Now it is hard to see it unless you are looking for it. And I just don't see it as a problem. But I suppose some could be worse than mine.

I just went back and looked,,and I think my table was about the same as the OP's. Seems could see it better from one direction. Maybe I am easy to please.

The DVDs are great. Even guys that have been doing tables for many years will likely pick up a new trick or two-like how to stretch rail cloth tight without dimples in the rubber.

Hi All,

Are stretch marks normal following installation of new Simonis 860 cloth ?
If so, will they disappear in time ?
Its only cosmetic - but looks kinda weird. The light seems to reflect off the un-even stretch of the weave / grain of the cloth somehow...
It looks like the cloth is bubbled or not sitting flat / pulled tight enough - but this is not the case - the cloth is sitting nice & flat & is tight.
No glue was used during cloth installtion - just staples.
Thanx
Cheers.
Hmmm - is this the only way to put a picture on here ?

My 860 looked the same way as yours (after the 1st install). I went straight to the owner of the company that setup my table and told him to either do it again or give me my money back and I'd find someone who can do it right. He tried to tell me that it's unavoidable with any Simonis cloth to which I let him know very quickly that Simonis and many top mechanics say otherwise. I also informed him of the instructional videos that Simonis has about how to properly stretch their cloths to avoid this problem.
After he came out and took a look at it he agreed that it was too excessive (it looked just like yours) and the second time he did the work himself instead of sending one of his 2 other crews out. But then again I told him not to even think about sending out the same crew as the 1st visit.
Are the stretch marks normal??? NO!!! And those kind of stretch marks (Tiger Striping) will effect how you judge bank shots, rail cut shots and generally will affect your game and how you see angles on the table.
Will they disappear in time? NOT LIKELY!!! I think that people just get used to them over time. I've seen them on game-room tables before and the only time that I've ever seen them get better was when the table was finally recovered or the nap was worn so bad that the table cloth was slick and hard as glass.
I would (politely) demand that he 1st come out and look at your table and then fix the situation as you paid good money on the best (and highest priced) billiard cloth available. Good luck with your situation. If you can't get it settled then just try to move on (if you don't have the $$$ to have it redone by someone else) and enjoy the table until it's time for a new cloth. You will adjust to it (if you have to).
But personally that would be my last resort.
