Strickland Match

how come the other guy is racking the 1 on the spot?????

Looks like the spot has been moved up the table so he is racking the balls in the correct place. The 9 ball is effectively on the 'spot' (if the spot was in its old position). I would guess they moved the spot so that it is still under the 1 ball some it will minimize divots created by the 1 ball getting hammered by the cueball.

Now this is going to sound stupid BUT If you read Jay's thread on the rules he put up a week ago or so he says you can rack the one or the 9 on the spot. I remember seeig that and thinking it was a misteke. I wonder if you have the choice now. Never heard of that before though. Can someone find it

I don't know if this is true or not, but somebody told me they actually MOVED the spot on the table up about 2 inches.

Wow Earl is really playing bad. Missing balls and not playing shape. Something ain't right with him.

They did, you can clearly see that on the stream. The spot is under the 1 when the balls are racked.

:sorry: 5-1 I have a feeling this will be over very soon. Earl had had his chances but he failed to deliver. Majid had a couple of dry breaks and yet he is leading 5-1.

Earl doesn't play well coming from behind, unless the winds change, giving him a lucky roll.

Ok, so it is probably not the case and it is a mistake but it was all I could think of when it was said that he was racking the one on the spot. I did go and check and it was said check it out.

As TD this year it is my goal to make the rules as fair as possible for everyone. It will be a stellar field, full of great players, and for that I'm excited. Since this is a WPA sanctioned event we will follow their rules as closely as possible.

9-Ball, Texas Express, Winner Breaks and Rack Your Own for starters. We will be playing Foul on All Balls, which is the way most major events are played today all over the world. An incidental touch of a shirt sleeve will not constitute a foul unless the ball moves. It's actually much easier to officiate playing all ball fouls than playing cue ball fouls only. If a ball moves you fouled and there is no question about it.

The big question is how to rack the balls, and there is no clear WPA rule to cover that. We will definitely be using the break box and can either rack the one on the spot or the nine on the spot. The problem with racking the one on the spot is the wing ball is wired for one of the corner pockets, thus making a run-out that much easier. With the nine on the spot this is not the case. Most of the top players I've talked to support the idea of racking the nine on the spot. It makes for a better game requiring more skill. That's the way they do it on all Matchroom events and it seems to work pretty well for them.

Barry's goal as the promoter of this event is to make it the best test of pool in the USA, similar to the U.S. Open in golf. I'm still open to suggestions about this and anything else rule related. I seriously doubt we will require three or more balls to be pocketed or sent past the head string. But we will not allow soft breaking. A cut break is okay as long as a firm stroke is used.

Thanks for your input. Barry has a lot of faith in the members of this forum and he asked me to please put this out there for all to see. It also serves to inform the players in advance what rules we will be using.

bfdlad,

That was when Jay was looking for opinions on the matter. Basically, he was going to do one or the other and just hadn't made the decision yet.

The adhesive spot is placed such that the 9-ball is on the traditional foot spot if the 1-ball is on the adhesive spot.

Freddie <~~~ bring the tradition back!

sjm is carrying it in the other Friday thread. It is 8 to 4 right at the time of this writing, Waleed on top.

As Earl is talking and walking around the table, commentator Mark Wilson states this is why Earl is not a part of Team USA any longer on the Mosconi Cup. Also states it would be better for Team USA if Earl played for Europe.

Not nice comments by Mark.
