Strickland's long cue?

Shane's extension is made by Cuetec and works on their cues that have threads in the bumper. I think it is around 6.5" and is on eBay for $13.95.

Yes, I know about the extensions that are built custom for cues, but what I noticed (or I thought I noticed) was that Shane had his (custom) extension screwed in the entire time, and was playing with what appeared to be a 65"+ cue. Very good chance it was my imagination though.

In the Podcast with Shane and Earl a while back, Earl encouraged Shane to use a longer cue because Shane was grasping the butt of his cue.

earl is not slapping on all eight. Don't consider what he does or says when shopping for the next thing to fix your game. The truth is, it's table time, not gimmicks, that will make you better at pool!! And it's earl's table time that helps him overcome the rediculously huge cue and all the other nonsense. Don't let me find you with duck tape on your arm either.

wow... what game is that?

and nice outfit by earl...polo shirt - they must have required him add the vest and bow tie ;)

That game is called Russian Pyramid. Notice how big the table was? Notice how the pockets are barely bigger than the balls? Evgeny Stalev is (was?) a pool player who started in Pyramid. The guy is freaking awesome and I always figured he was so good partly due to his start in pyramid. Check this out...

big table, tight pockets i get.

the fact that you can use any ball as a cue ball - and that you can pocket the cue ball instead of an object ball... seems that would help. it seems like they are banging balls pretty hard, wouldn't some finesse be better since you can hit any ball?

Yes, this is correct. He used the extension for the entire 10 ball match. He did not use it for the 8 ball or one pocket (95% sure he did not). I watched all 3 events.

When they break, they leave a stack pretty much clustered together. Sometimes they are trying to get a ball to go four rails around that huge table into the stack to break it up. But other times I can't explain it. Maybe they are trying to force the ball through the points of the pocket.

But I do know that if you can make that big ball, in those tiny pockets, hitting it that hard, your stroke has to be pretty good.

You need to have a pure stroke to use a cue that long. Any flaws are amplified. I believe if Earl would slow down a little, get rid of all the gimmicks and just go back to basics he would be the best in the world again.

He is handicapping himself with all that stuff.

Okay, it is a bit odd to bump your own post but I was watching a live stream yesterday of Earl playing Tony Robles and guess what - no weights, no glove, no extension, playing a little slower. Score 9-2 Earl.

The Pearl

Love him or hate him ,.... There is only one Earl Strickland.

He is a colorful character that's for sure,..... and I'm a fan.

I was lucky enough to get the story behind that long cue. He carries probably two other extention handles with his that add or lessen the weight. He says as he got older it helped him find his center. his balance point in which helps him do ungodly things on the pool table. Along with all the other crap he uses, according to him, helps him stay up with the young guns. he knows the tour is for the young guys and this helps him stay near the top. having his cue that long also helped his eyes zero in where he needed to hit that ball. That all came from him when he was living in cocoa beach last year. saw him pretty much every week for the friday tourney.

I can tell you what else it did. It has made some cue makers alot of money 40 of 50 dollars a pop for those extentions. I know of 3 or 4 very very strong players that use those and just run rack after rack.

As far as his cue hits. Well mike makes one hell of a cue. The extention on the back actually helps the balance and i guess helps you makes more balls. It hit solid i thought. Hope that helped anyone that wanted to know.
