Strokes and deflection question.

Gerry The Ghost (via hos DVD) says "Keeping the tip on the cue a little longer" (I believe he said that, years ago watching it). I know that isn't what happens but it does help me draw longer and easier when that is in the mind...

Thinking about longer tip/ball contact time probably makes him accelerate smoothly rather than jerking his stroke, which helps him hit the CB more accurately.

Good job recognizing that his visualization helps even though it's not reality.

But how do you know you draw longer on a given shot, just coz you have a specific thought in mind?

You can't test that same shot without the thought.

Nope I don't know, But I do know that when I do I tend to stroke smoother and draw easier. It's most likely just in my head.
What's "just in our heads" has a way of making real differences on the table. It's a pretty mental game.

Some thoughts are useful despite being incorrect.

There is usually more confidence in knowing the reality of the situation and building trust in that, as opposed to bullshitting yourself.

Its like setting your clock ahead 15 minutes. It might work for you if you are the type of person who is easily baffled by things, but most people realize they previously set the clock ahead, and still have 15 minutes to play with.

Of course one could make the argument that the concept of time in human terms is an idea that is useful AND incorrect. :D

Incorrect?

So the measurement of the earths rotation on its axis and its orbit around the sun are just concepts to you.

Do you worry about ships falling off the edge of the earth if they go out too far? :grin-square:

If ALL the 3C players in the world adhered to the axiom, "You only need 1 stroke to play pool or 3 cushion." None of the 3C players would ever average more than .500! What a joke! :embarrassed2:

Does different types of strokes deflect the cue ball less or more when applying English?

Different types of strokes can alter the angle and point of contact with the cueball. That will certainly alter the deflection. That said, I don’t think you can hit the same spot on the cueball, at the same angle, with the same speed, same bridge length, and get anything but the same amount of deflection.

How does science explain that Mike Massey can draw the ball so far

Does he apply the english differently ?

Does the .01 second or whatever work different for him and why?

What is stoke and why don't I have one?

I used to know a guy with a slip stroke he could really stroke the ball,Jerry Trig

Really pretty stroke,I tried to copy him and actually drew my ball way better but
I couldn't control it

Jimmy Moore also had a slip stroke, have you ever seen him spin his rock?

Mike Masse and Jimmy Moore we’re skilled at hitting the ball accurately at its outer limits and with lots of speed. If you hit the ball in the same spot with the same speed, you would get the same draw.

Both true statements. Angle/Spot/Speed (ASS) are the only stroke variables that matter.
