Stupid idea? Undoubtedly, but I might try it.

To improve my center ball striking I want to get an old cue ball, drill a hole slightly larger than my cue tip in the CB's center. Then see if I can strike the ball and propel it forward. Hole about 1" deep. If the tip strikes the rim, deflection happens. With enuff practice when I use a regular cb I can't help but see the practice hole.

How will you know if it is exactly center without putting a slight flat spot 90° below it? Then it still won’t be true center because the cb is slightly shorter. Sounds interesting and should be pretty close to center

Of course you could do the Willie Mosconi thing and just lay a.Coke bottle on its side.

But, ever notice Efren's cue tip when he's stroking? It's going up and down and sideways and everywhere except back and forth in a straight line. When Earl strokes his tip is very often right on the felt. He even does that on follow shots. Not sure what's up with that but there's a bunch of pros that stroke that way. Personally, I couldn't make a ball if I stroked like either one

I’ve seen something like this recently, but can’t quite remember where. The hole was all the way through the ball and it had a flat spot on the bottom.

yes do the coke bottle or two pieces of chalk and go between them. this way you dont have to reset it each time. and can get them smaller as your stroke gets straighter.

but if you can hit it up and down the table and come back to your tip you are stroking straight. that is really the true test to use.

Trick from Niels The Terminator Feijen: put a piece of cellophane tape over your cue tip. You know, the tape you use to wrap presents. If you don’t hit center, you WILL miscue side, up, or down.

I believe they do it for two reasons.
They can see the aim spot better without the cue in the way,, and it creates the maximum of whatever spin you are applying to the cue ball. jmo

I would be concerned with seeing the hole. That would throw me off, I'm sure. But I have inner ear problems and visual stimuli work adversely on me. It may not bother you.

How about this: Drill a hole completely through a cue ball and slip it onto your cue like a ring so that the tip just pokes through the other side and glue it there. Then all you have to do is match up that cue ball with a real one and shoot! :)

To improve my center ball striking I want to ...
Which other methods have you already tried that didn't work? Or are you just goofing on us?

Here's one I like.... Put an object ball about a diamond from the cue ball. Shoot the cue ball hard at the object ball with the goal of stopping the cue ball absolutely dead with no spin. Shoot up the table, not towards a pocket, so you don't have to keep fetching object balls.

The only thing I've tried is using a striped ball in place of a cb, shooting at balls at various angles and keeping the stripe wobble to a minimum.
