Sugartree info

Can someone give me some more info on Eric Crisp from Sugartree? Where is he from? Does he play? How do you like the hit? Why are his cues so expensive? Does make cues with points and veneers? Why have I never seen a veneered cue?

These are just some of the questions I have. I've heard good things about his cues and am thinking about picking one up, but I can't seem to find any info on the guy. What do the players, and not the colloectors, feel about his cues? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. I am aware that this is the WTB thread but feel where this is where the knowledgeable people would read it. Sorry if you're upset about this post in this thread.

Thanks in advance for any info.

Mr. Crisp is from Alamogordo, New Mexico (not sure if I spelled it correctly). The market dictates the price as with everything in the world. He does make cues with points. I have not seen one with veneers as of yet. You can get a lot of information if you do a search for "Sugartree" or "Eric + Crisp" on this forum.

I am a pool player. Personally, I love the hit of his cues. I just got one last week and can not put it down. I have owned over 25 cues in my life and this one is the best for me and my stroke. I just posted pictures in the gallery of my new cue. Everything about this cue is fantastic. The choice of woods and the finish. The best (for me) is the shaft wood. I have never seen anything like them before.

Good luck in your search,
Chris

Thanks CMD

Thanks a ton CMD! I am not being critical. please don't misunderstand me. I just wanted some feedback and those listed questions are sincere, not sarcastic or critical. His cues, or wood selection, look incredible. Just not a big fan of points with no veneers and was wondering if he made veneered cue.

Thanks again and have a good day!

most of those questions would be better answered by him personally. try pming him. his user name here is qbilder.

Very solid well built cues.

His fit and finish is some of the best in the business.

Hit is on the firmer end of the specturm, and all of his cues play very consistant with each other. (are all similar hit wise)

a cue is worth, what the buyer is willing to pay for it.

IMO this post brings another question. Most of us love Sugartree cues, but not everybody can have them. I can call right now some very high end and expensive cuemakers and order a cue, but that does not happen with Eric - I actually bought one cue directly from Eric and owned another 2 ST's.
Eric is a super nice guy and he was awesome every time we exchanged pm's and such.
The fact the matter is that, it is very hard if not impossible to get a hold of him. Yep, pm him, he might answer . He is a bit "moody".
We all know that Eric is a special kind of person but would be nice to know if we can ever get another cue or a 1st cue from him.
One of my best playing cues that I ever had was a ST btw.

Thanks benfica. I am the guy that sold you the Josey, not sure if you knew that. Hope everything worked out. I found some incredible info at jimbosarmy.com and he seems like a nice guy. Take care.

I know that my friend . Josey's are awesome keepers as well!

Thank you,TY,TY,TY!!!for that link! I'm fairly certain now why I haven't heard anything back from Eric-since I got my Sugartee from Worminator! This will only connect to those that have read
Eric's responses.

To answer some of your questions, yes he plays, in fact he was just playing in a tournie the other day.

I love the hit of his cues, they have a solid hit, they hit hard and have an audible bit of feedback with every hit. They are as most people will agree on the stiffer side of most cues ( his cues make my TS with his new taper seem slightly whippy... )

Cues sell for what their owners think they're worth

He makes cues with points, his signature pointed cue would be his 8-pointers (exp: http://forums.azbilliards.com/showthread.php?t=131426) I have seen 2 examples of his cues with veneers, one was a Kingwood Davis conversion and the other was a wrapless ebony Titlist conversion. to quote him:

I rarely build classic four pointers with veneers. I like them ok, but it's not really my style.

IMO he's a terrific person, and yes he is funny. If you can find one of his cues that is still in the original specifications you should give it a whirl.

Wish you luck with your endeavor!

I remember years ago when Eric was another member of another pool related forum that I was into. At the time, he wasn't really building cues, but he always talked about how he would someday, but not until he had collected all the wood that he wanted. But it was always really nice to exchange messages with him concerning "cue talk" 'cause it was very obvious then that this guy was an absolute wood geek (and I use that term with very serious respect). He loves wood............studies it............experiments with it.................and is always trying to learn more. I almost wish I could talk him into making me a guitar.
I've always been somewhat superstitious, and have believed there are great playing cues................and then there are a few cues out there that have a soul. So what his post says about "a cue with a hearbeat" really hits home with me.
Now, if I could only get my hands on one of his cues!

it looks like Eric's cue building got him a stalker

whatever

Have some class goof. Some people have nothing better to do than knock people. Get a life. I was just asking serious questions and then paid him some well deserved compliments after reading some of his threads.

I was a member of EasyPoolTutor way back when it first got started. I even managed to meet and play with several of the original members during one of my trips to the PI. Eric started posting there shortly after I did, and at the time, most of his posts were answers to questions concerning cue talk. "How to fix a shaft ding?" "What do I clean my shaft with?" and other cue care types of questions. I seem to remember he was making a few cues as a hobby, but not selling them....................just making or 'tweaking' cues for friends. I also seem to remember when he first started to offer some of his cues for sale. It makes me sick that I didn't buy one from him back then!

Eric makes a cue that not only looks great, it plays great. He will admit to taking his time when he builds a cue. If the cue is not up to his rigid standards, he will cut it in half and start all over. (I know from experience):frown:
He puts family first, thus the long wait for a cue he is making for you. It is worth the wait.
