Hey, folks, I built a cue & gave to Mission Billiards in my hometown of Alamogordo, NM. They are raffling it to raise money for added cash in a tournament they are having this weekend. I don't have pics of the cue, sorry. It's nothing special, just a solid rosewood butt with a fiddleback maple sleeve, my typical rings & black phenolic collars. Two 13mm shafts, 19oz.

Here's a copy & paste of the tourney announcement from the tourament forum. It gives some details & directions. Cost of tickets are 1/$5, 3/$10, 7/$20, 25/$50, 100/$100

Thanks and sorry for such short notice
Eric Crisp

Interesting... Nice of you to do also, Donate a cue.. Not many makers do that.. Hope to hear from ya soon.. :)

Awesome- it doesn't need to be fancy, just gotta play good! I'm sure this one is no exception if you let it out of your shop Eric!

Very cool, Eric! I am sure this will generate some real cashflow for the tournament's prize pot.

Josh, there are those cuemakers out there that are very good about supporting their local pool scene. A local cuemaker to me, Paul Allers, has been VERY generous to our women's 8 ball league, by donating a cue just about every year now for our annual banquet's raffle. The one he donated this year was a gorgeous koa cue...one of the ladies on my tean won it, and she did not have her own cue...so it was extra cool.

Eric, kudos to you!!

Lisa

Thanks for the kind words :)

Please don't contact me for the tickets as that stuff is out of my control and I have no involvement besides being the donor. I'm just bringing it to the FS section so people can see it. If interested, the best way to get tickets is to call the room at 575-437-0027 Friday after 2PM MT. Thanks a bunch, folks.

i was going to do that, wanna flip for it? :D

You & Joey both know i'll build a cue for either of you. No need to break some kid's heart who spent his lunch money on tickets :) Well, on second thought, screw the kid. He shouldn't be hanging out in pool rooms, anyway :)

*LMAO* C'mon now. The game wouldn't be what it is today without kids like that!

*DELETED*

Dumb ass duplicated post. *LOL* The first one I posted didn't initially show as having posted.

You donated a cue to Wes Hunter? I don't know why, but that struck me as funny. Glad to see two cuemakers really working hand in hand!!

Wes is a great guy and builds incredible cues himself.

Yes, Wes builds wonderful cues. I donated the cue to the tourney to build up a larger prize pot. Wes & me are great friends. We actually work together a lot behind the scenes. His wife was out scouting sponsors around town so she could add some cash to the pot, and when I caught wind of it I just volunteered. I love this game and will do whatever I can to promote it. Might as well start with friends.

Are you in Altus? I was there for a few years, know all of the local players. I used to be a weekly player in all the tourneys, and played lots of money matches at Scooters. Times were nice back then, lots of rough neck money from the oil fields, good gambling. My buddies & I would run up to Cheyenne on weekends & play calcutta tourneys. Those ranchers & oil riggers always spent big on their horses so the score was always good. I played a Mexican immigrant one night & must have taken a grand off him, never losing a game. We played until they kicked us out & turned the lights off. He just wouldn't quit, and as long as he was donating I was playing. He couldn't speak a lick of English but could mumble "twnny" & "hunded" :) I miss those days. Altus is a cool place. Lots of exes there, too :)

Wes and Cindy Hunter

Hi Guys,
Just want to say I've known Wes and Cindy for over 10 years. They are one most solid customers I've had.. They have given so much support to the women poolplayers.. Wes himself makes a Great Cue.. I've played with one till Lucky wanted it and took it to Japan.. Along with a couple of Szamboti's:eek:
Eric, that is a nice thing you did for the Hunter's and the Players there.. I hope "What goes around comes around" for all of you.. :) ..
When in Alamogordo, Be sure to visit Area 51, to look for the Aliens.. Remember Roswell??:D

Yeah, I'm stationed at Altus. I'm a First Sergeant for the Medical Group. Scooter's is still the place to go for the young folks. Hey, we actually have an Applebee's now  . I don't try to do much gambling in town, since I'm a Shirt. I'm sure you know the deal. Not really any good players around here now, but it's a great place to live. And yes, our divorce rate is through the roof.

I met Wes and Cindy at the Texas State 9-Ball Chamionship in Austin several years a go when I was at Lackland. They're great people. I have one of the cues that Wes built that was on the cover of American Cueist. He signed it for me at the tournament and fixed one of the ferrules that I had scratched. That cue is an awesome player.

So are you in the AF, if so, where are you stationed now?

Jim

Yeah, I can understand the "shirt" situation. Not a good image hanging out in the bars with the troops :) I hope you are one of the good shirts, as I have seen many great & many not so great, none in the middle. I used to be in the AF but decided not to reenlist when my wife & me both were sent to separate areas of Afghanistan right after 911. It was hell on the family & kids. I decided to finish my time, then stay at home & build cues. My kids have stability now no matter what.

We are in Alamogordo, NM. The base is Holloman AFB. We are roughly 8 hrs. from Altus, I think. I'm planning to cruise out there somewhat soon & visit some friends. I made lots of friends with the locals. Steve Hall, the owner of Ace Hardware there in Altus, is a fair player & was like a brother to me while I was there. The old hustlers I think have passed on by now, but I learned a lot about the game from them. Red Robeson is an old fellow there, if still alive, and was an ultra strong player for a while before age began kicking his ass. He dwindled down to a sour grump playing safteies all the time, when he was accustomed to running rack after rack. The best player was Texas Ed, a middle aged Mexican fellow who lived down in Vernon. He was great. If he's still around you'll get a game that can be kept private. He would frequent the thursday tourneys at scooters & friday tourneys at robin's nest. We'd have 10 man 3-ball regularly, and he was generally on top.
