I would love to buy an mp4/flv stream recording.
THIS!!!!
I have finally come around to accepting the near fact that 8 ball is the way to go for the pros. I really don't care what the pros think is best for them. I don't think there are too many marketing experts amongst the pro ranks. Also, I don't think any of them would boycott an 8 ball tournament because they prefer a different game.
I personally think 10 ball is the best overall test of skill for them but so what. I've been playing a little bit of bar box 8 ball lately with mainly league players and I bet 90 percent of these guys think 9 ball is a joke (and 10 ball by extension). I have my own opinion of why most of these guys don't like 9 ball -- most of them can't play it, but that's besides the point.
Anyways, Celtic is right -- we need to see pros playing 8 ball on tight equipment. They might not love it but it's a more attractive game to the amateurs and it can be marketed to non players as well. Everybody knows what 8 ball is all about.
Well, that's all I have to say about that. Where's that Pros Need to Play 8 Ball Petition at???
I think we need a new/old (returning) faces to TAR- such as Corteza, Deuel, Dechaine, Hatch, Morris, etc. Shane is great and I understand he will duck nobody, but we need some variety
Earl vs Alex would be entertaining.
Just wait until you see it. They will either make it look silly unless you trick up the table and then why not make them play on a snooker table or you'll see 30 min bumpfests that would even make a one pocket player's eyes bleed. TAR22 gave us our first stalemate. You might have to wait until TAR230 before you see another playing rotation. Shorstops make 9 foot 8 ball look easy. The pros will make it look like tennis. Serve...Volley...Win.
OMG, please - never Earl ever again please!!!
Have you watched ANY world championship 8 ball matches? You get a few more break and runs than the rotation games, but not nearly as many as you're predicting...the matches get very tactical and the safety play is much more creative than 9 ball. A quick youtube search of Efren, Bustamante, Mika, Ortmann, Ralf and many others reveals several epic 8 ball matches, all on tight nine-footers. No break/runout of sets there, and those are just races to 8. A three day 8 ball match would be huge, and you'd get a lot more casual player interest for ppv, IMHO.
Before someone spouts off about 8ball. SVB said it best. Not for the pros on a 9 footer. His words but I agree.

10-foot table ideal for 8-ball? I don't understand that. The thing that makes 8-ball stand out is the strategic aspect of it, and strategy really only comes up when clusters form. The bigger the table, the less likely clusters would form and the game becomes more and more a shot-making game than a cerebral one. If that's the case, might as well play a rotation game such as 9-ball or 10-ball to make it more difficult. And if he thinks it is closer to feasable as a pro game on that 9-footer then he would likely see a whole new light to it on the new 10-foot Diamond tables if they had the same size 4 1/8th inch cut pockets which is what I have always said would be the ideal surface for pro 8-ball.

I think 8-ball on a barbox is better to enhance the mental aspect of the game. Obviously the issue with barbox pool is that ball pocketing is trivial.
Hmm, I got an idea to improve 8-ball on 9-footer for champions. I think it deserves another thread.
