Although very deserving, Sarah is not allowed to play in the U.S. Open.

This topic has been discussed on the CCB. The U.S. Open is a male only tournament. The rights for women to play were sold to the WPBA years ago.

Regardless of that fact, the WPBA has not been allowing their players to participate in large Open events recently. I know there were several discussions on this forum, as well as others, about the women not being allowed to play at DCC.

I posed the question last year, so I’ll ask again.

How many posters would be interested in sponsoring an AzB player/poster at the US Open?
Rick

why? and this is a serious question.

YaskY? Only you can answer the question for yourself. Me? I like to think I have a hand in providing something to someone who shares an interest w/ me who might otherwise be unable to partake. $25 or $50 ain't a huge sum but ,as shown in2004, can be combined with others tio make a big sum with BIG IMPACT. Just ask the restaurants what happened when RudeDog and DPurdy came to town!!!!!!!
Did you ask 'coz you are against or 'coz you want us to sell you on it?

The whole purpose and intention is to give someone an opportunity to make a dream come true. By contributing a small amount someone could afford to go to the US Open that normally wouldn’t be able to do so. It’s something I believe in and many others hopefully do as well. All that was asked in return from the selected one, would be to provide reports on action or their experience and post it here. And also promote AzB.

Rick

So far, we have 28 Yes votes and only 3 No. That’s 700 bucks and some have offered to give more than 25, so it maybe closer to 900.

I wasn’t aware that women were excluded from the Open. Is this true? Or is it just the WPBA players who have contracts against playing in the Open.

Rick <--- my idiot rating has increase as well.

TAP, TAP, TAP !

AND THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED!!!!!!

Rude Dog was able to do something he never would have. He made new friends, went to a blues festival, out to dinner and breakfast with the beautiful Ms. P., played cut throat with the Purdy's, went out dancing at a night club, and got to play in the US Open. This took balls and money. Rude Dog had the balls and some great AZ members had the heart and money to make it happen. Our good buddy Lazarus even got to be his room mate. And by the way, his stakehorse paid his $500 entry fee.
THAT'S WHY !!!!!!

Lazarus, wasn't he the "Comeback Kid"? That reminds me of a great story. One time I was out and ran into a good buddy of mine, Oh crap!, what's his name? It's on the tip of my tongue. Darn it! Oh well, if I think of it, I'll tell you later. LOL

I had the pleasure of playing in the Open last year because of the members of this great forum. Although I won only 2 matches, which I expected to win more, I had a great time. The money raised was more than I thought could be done but this site is full of surprises. Whoever the lucky winner this year, just enjoy yourself and take it all in because it's definitely worth it. Meeting Purdy and his wife was worth it in itself, 2 of the nicest people I have ever met. Somebody mentioned that I didn't give enough info and I do apologize for that. I was in awe the whole time I was there because I know it will probably be the only time I ever get the chance to go. There was a computer in the hotel lobby but getting on it for more than a few minutes at a time was hard to do. Again, thank you to all that contributed last year for me to go, I will always have that experience because of you. I also met JKJerry and his wife, Sweatinandbettin and his wife to be, I believe, and Bazarus, who was my roommate, and JAM, the best match reporter of all time. :D All great people that I'd like to meet again. So, I will also throw in what I can for whoever gets to go this year because it's well worth it. Peace to all and good luck, John Morton.

well i hate t hear that women arent allowed to play in the open so count me in for a c-note anyways to whomever gets chosen.....if im not around the purdman knows how to reach me.....good luck all and i hope we get to make someones dream come true this year......take care, juston

We could sponsor Sarah Rousey for the WPBA US Open in October. I'm good for a hundy on that one.

I'm also in for Jimmy Mendoza for the US Open. He beat a few monsters at his last big tourney. (Hard Times wasn't it?)

The U.S. Open is from September 19, 2005 through September 25, 2005. The players meeting is on Sunday, September 18.
:D

I'll most likely be deployed around that time, but I'll kick in a few bucks. Is someone going to set-up a paypal account?

Jim

I would like to nominate Mr. Keith McCready to be the AZB representative and Jen could do the writing for him.

Jim

ok.........i'd like to nominate someone that i think should be the one this year.

everyone else on here will probably be going in years to come, and will be able to benifit from the azb open fund other years........however, the person i'm nominating may or may not.

i think we should put blackjack in the open. i know he's planning on attending, and i believe he said something about playing.

i can't think of a better person i'd like to help get in the open.

what say ye?

thanks
