Koop, I suggested that we include AZ members who are planning on going anyway. How many AZ members do you think are planning on putting out that kind of cash to play? I am talking about hotel for 7 nights, air fare, food, $500 entry fee, transportation, etc., etc. You are looking at $2,000 plus. Kicking in $600 myself last year we only came up with $1,875. It also cost me another $1,500 to be there on 2 weekends. The experience was a most pleasant one none the less. Money well spent in my opinion. JMHO

You kicked in $600??? Wow! Now that's more than I'd want any individual to spend on my game! If there's ridiculous support for the idea, I wouldn't mind having my name included but I intend to go nonetheless and would be happy to throw in my support for whomever we choose.

actually you're pretty close to being right.......LOL.

thanks purdman for the nomination.............if the forum wanted me to, i'd more than happy to play............although i think there are a few people on here who have been playing much longer than i, and are more deserving of it this year.

thanks

purdman I remember the fundraiser last year and thought you a great individual for your passion to send another to play and your time and donation to the cause. I would be interested in putting up up $25-50.00 towards the cause as I am a passion player as well. I love to compete and thats what keeps it fun for me. Let me know who is going

I'll only sponsor Jude if he promises to use my tan chalk. :p

I'm in for $25.

Under my plan, you would be included! We would put your funds in a lock box. The lock box would be kept in a secret location. Only two people would have a key to the lock box. If I tell ya who they are, I will have to kill you. Fair enough?
Purdman :)

Alright Al. You're nominated :-)

LOL, seriously I was thinking about it and I might pass on the US Open for The World Summit. Last year's location was walking distance from my apartment so it'd be difficult to pass. Regardless of money (though it's never without regard), I'd need to take more time off from work than I'd probably be allowed.

At the very least, let's gather up the support and worry about nominations later! There are several players on the board I'd love to have go!

I didn’t realize you kicked in that much, wow. And on top of that, I believe you auctioned off a few cues. Thanks again Don.

I like the idea of supporting several players.

With 21 Yes votes we have enough for one entry fee already.

By my count, the nominees so far are:

The One
Vapoolplayer
Jimmy M.
Sjm
Black balled
Jude

I don’t mind keeping track of the nominations or votes or even the money, however, I’m not sure that I’m the best qualified, or trusted to do the job. Keeping up with this forum is difficult, I don’t view it as much as I would like to.

Wooo! Thanks to you! I do want to play the Open this year and appreciate the nod.
I would like to be considered to be go to bat for you pepole,
I am in VA and would not require airfare. Hell, maybe I will carpool with JAM and KM and they will make me be a smoker again!
Anyway- I will be donating to our cause again this year.

LOL. JAM drives a no-smoking vehicle at all times. My car came equipped WITHOUT ashtrays, a new trend in the auto industry.

However, the 3-1/2-hour drive to Chesapeake Beach from D.C. is only a two-cigarette-rest-stop drive, piece of cake! :p

LOLOLOLOLOL! That's it EXACTLY! Forget miles, K's or clicks!! It's smokes! Boston is only 2 smokes from NYC. Atlantic City is only 1, unless you punch it!

Well, here's my idea. If I can arrange the time off work (when the hell is the U.S. Open anyway?), and if AZB'ers wanted to pay my entry (I'll cover the rest of my expenses); I would be willing to play, and would provide extensive reports if computer facilities are available. My idea would be to report a competitor's eye view and also to interview as many pro's as I can (at DCC this involved matching up, or buying them dinner, or just imposing upon them). I could then transcribe the interviews as time allows. I could definitely steer the interviews to issues that are of interest to AZB (ie. aiming systems, equipment preferences, influences, opinions on lessons and practice, gambling philosophies, and perhaps even ask them about deflection).

Also (since Rude Dog completely failed to report on this) I can also attempt to verify the existence of the "pool groupie."

P.S. - Below is an example of my DCC report - but I was not competing, and my purpose in attending was not strictly as a reporter.

The U.S. Open is from September 19, 2005 through September 25, 2005. The players meeting is on Sunday, September 18.

The Holiday Inn had a computer hooked up to a high speed connection in their lobby that was pretty convenient last year. I hope they do it again this year. I never really had to wait except once when JAM was keeping you guys up to date and then I got on to keep my guys on Billiards Digest up to date! :D

just bumping this to the top.

i forgot to mention jude in my earlier nominee's..........sorry jude.

put me down for 50 on whoever gets voted as the supportee.

cool, thanks for the support guys (and girls :) - I am currently seriosly considering playing in the Open, especially with all the other tournaments around the same time. It depends how things go in the next few tournaments though.

I still can't beleive how much you guys raised last year for Rude Dog and (almost) Jimmy M, more than just a forum.

Cheers

Count me in for $31.56. Wait a second, our colourful money is pretty much useless in the USA :( Oh well, I guess I'll have to send $25 US ...

Do we have someone to manage the money yet ?

that would be a great idea cuewhiz and i'd definitely support it..........but.........women aren't allowed in the US open (unless you're talking the womens wpba event)

even if you could get barry to let her in, i don't think the wpba would allow it anyway.

thanks
