ok.........i'd like to nominate someone that i think should be the one this year.

everyone else on here will probably be going in years to come, and will be able to benifit from the azb open fund other years........however, the person i'm nominating may or may not.

i think we should put blackjack in the open. i know he's planning on attending, and i believe he said something about playing.

i can't think of a better person i'd like to help get in the open.

what say ye?

thanks

Great choice, VAP!!

I'm touched and flattered that some of you thought I was worth considering, but I have no interest in either playing in or attending the US Open.

Nonetheless, I'll contribute $200 towards the expenses of the player we all agree on. Though I'd be happy with any of those we're considering, my choice is Jimmy Mendoza, whose 3rd place finish in the Pechauer event of a few months ago, including a convincing win over Parica, makes him a standout choice.

Besides, don't we all owe Jimmy, married just a few weeks ago, a wedding present? Let's raise enough that he can afford to take his new wife with him.

That sure is excellent Jimmy, he also beat Johl Younger in the first round of the Reno open last year!

I'd like for The One to go but I will gladly send my $25 bucks to whomever is chosen. Just tell me where and when.

I'm in again! I'll be happy to support whoever is chosen!

I have been in touch with Dead-Poked while he is on his Iraqi vacation...and he is planning on being back in time for the US Open. He talked quite openly about how he is looking forward to it since he missed the BCA event.

I don't know how he plays...and I don't know how he would feel about me doing this....but I'd like to toss his name in the hat. I have nothing but respect and admiration for the people who risk their lives to protect our country...and I'd love to make something happen for him!

i'm still all for blackjack. i'll support whoever we choose, but like i said, everyone else thats on the list will be at many more open's i believe. blackjack may not make it back for another...........or he could, depending on his health.

BLACKJACK for pres..........er...........u.s. open :D

Should we start the fund going and allow everyone who donates to make a vote as to who to send?

Are these the choices as of right now...

Jimmy Mendoza
Blackjack
Keith McCready (JAM, is Keith ok with this?)

Just for fun, how about if we toss Mr Harriman's name into the mix? Danny, you up for this?

I think Keith would be very honored to be included on the ballot for an AzBilliards-sponsored player. One thing for sure, whatever table he plays on, a crowd usually draws near.

I am actually considering doing a self-made documentary about the U.S. Open this year. I am looking into purchasing a video recording device (not sure which brand yet), but at the Open, there are quite a few good opportunities to see the players on the offs and capture their personality. It will be fun (IMO).

As a matter of fact, no matter who gets voted in to represent AzBilliards, I would absolutely love to see a great big AzBilliards logo in the form of a patch, hat, or shirt on full display for all to see. I do believe that AzBilliards is the best pool-related website on the Net, and what better way is there than to have the player wearing his colors; in this instance, AzBilliards' colors. :p

At the Skins Billiards Championship last November, 6 out of the 16 players actually sponsored themselves by paying their own $5,000 entry fee. Keith was one of those players. When TD Scott Smith announced the names of the players and who they were sponsored by on ESPN, the sponsor received recognition. I remember when they announced Johnny Archer's name, being sponsored by Olhausen and InsidePOOL, and people do take notice. This is name-brand recognition, and AzBilliards should be right out there, up front and center.

Let's get it going. No matter who gets voted in, I'm in like Flynn.

I would also like to add Walter Kochs a/k/a Black-Balled to the list, who is another regular on this forum, and from what I've been seeing of his game lately, he can get there.

You know, I was getting a little disappointed about this, not seeing much support. But maybe we’ll get a player there yet.

The current nominees so far:
TheOne
vapoolplayer
Jimmy M.
Black balled
Jude Rosenstock
Dead-Poked
Keith McCready (?)
Danny Harriman (?)

Sjm and Blackjack have graciously bowed out, if I understood correctly.

The only other question I have is this...

Should the # of votes a contributor has be based on how much they contribute or should everyone just get one vote?

Good question. What a dilemma. On one hand if sponsors are allowed a vote for every $25 donation, more money might be generated. However, some may withhold their 25 bucks, feeling that the spot could be bought. But on the other hand, if a donator, no matter how much, only has one vote why donate more.

I think a more accurate picture of who people want to go would be better shown by single votes. But, I say let people donate and vote as much as they want.

i had another thread about this mike. its probably a couple pages back.

we had decided that 1 vote per person that donates, no matter how much.

i've volunteered to take care of the money if no one else wants to.

i'll pm you about getting a sticky thread mike.

thanks

Based on another thread that Danny just posted, I think we can remove him from consideration. It sounds like he is retired until Brady pays him and then until tourneys start going with tighter pockets. So, it looks like we remove Danny and Keith is definitely on the list.

OK, one vote sounds good to me. It looks like we have the players list and are ready to go. I have a paypal account, should I go ahead and post a thread saying we are going to do this thing?

Well, I know this will be controversial and that I'm risking finding disfavor with some professionals, but why are there professionals on our list? Since when was this idea anything to do with paying the expenses of professionals that would play in the US Open anyway?

As far as I'm concerned, sending a player is about rewarding one of the regular posters who has enriched our forum experience by regularly sharing things about their current life in pool with us, to live out the dream of playing in a US Open. What we'd all get in return is that the person, whose habit of sharing their experiences in pool is already well-established and whose posts we already admire, would post regularly during the US Open and tell us what it's like to live the dream. Rude Dog played the part well last year, living the dream and relating his experiences, thoughts and reactions to playing in the event. All the amateur players nominated are worthy of our consideration.

Am I opposed to sponsoring professionals? Actually, I sponsored a player on the PBT for over three years and was at personal risk for well over $20,000. I urge all (having the means) to consider sponsoring a professional as I did.

Nonetheless, this AZB initiative, at least in my opinion, is not about covering the expenses of established professionals already planning to play in the US Open, but about bringing one of our frequent posters in contact with their dreams, and sharing the experience with them through the forum.

I will support whichever player we choose, but I feel it should be an amateur.

thats fine mike, make the post. i'm only 2 hours away from the open, so i'll be there all week, i can help out any way possible. i have a pay pal account as well. we can use yours or mine.

i say that when people pay, they submit their vote in PRIVATE (joe tucker suggested this and i think its a good idea)

each time someone gets a vote, we let that person know in private so that they know if they are strong in the running and need to make plans.

thats just my idea, but however you guys want to do it, is fine with me.

thanks
