Support BEF and help spend Dr. Dave's money

You can add my $50 to your tally. Next up will be Tom's CDs, hope he is doing well.
Thank you for your support of the BEF and Tom Ross.

I haven't seen or talked to Tom in over a month, but your post reminded me that I need to check in with him. Thanks.

He's playing lots of pool, and doing fairly well. Last I heard, he's running consecutive racks of straight-pool recently, so his pool feel continues to return. Unfortunately, his reading, writing, and speaking skills are still very limited; although, he can still understand speech fine.

Regards,
Dave

By a tremendous exertion of will I have overcome my native lethargy and propensity toward procrastination and the check is in the mail, but I sure hope those poor kids get some 14.1 along with that 9 ball.

Will you give us a progress report from time to time Dave?

Thanks again for your support.

Honestly, I doubt the future of BEF will involve 14.1, but I could be wrong.

Will you give us a progress report from time to time Dave?
FYI, the News section of the BEF website does a decent job of providing frequent updates on BEF activities.

Dave

I met Laura Smith a few years ago at the Riverwind Casino in Norman, OK at the WPBA U.S. Open. We talked for a minute or two on the floor of the casino and I was immediately smitten by the love and commitment she had for the kids and the future of American pool. If I'd of had some extra bucks at that meeting, I'd have given to her (for the BEF) on the spot. Beautiful lady inside and out!!!

I Paypal'd $50. I figure since I don't gamble I probably save myself LOTS of $$$ by not doing so. So, even on a fixed income, I feel it incumbent upon myself that I give something back to a sport/game that I so dearly love.

BTW, nice gesture Dr. Dave (for matching)!!!

... Your original post mentions 9 ball twice but no other games. ...
FYI, Laura wrote to me about this topic, which also relates to the Olympics discussion. Here's here comment:

from Laura Smith, Executive Director of BEF:
... as for playing 9-Ball, I believe it may be the game of choice because it is recognized around the world. As I recall, one of the requirements to get into the Olympics is to have a common game throughout the world and WPA decided on 9-Ball. Hence, 9-Ball is played at the Junior World's and Junior Nationals.

Dave

That's great. Thank you.

The total is getting up there now. The committed donations are currently at $270. With my match, that's a current total of $540! Keep it up.

Education

OK, Dave.

You got me, too. I just donated $50. Like Dave Nelson, I sure would like these kids to learn 14.1, but that may come in time.

I'll put a link to this thread up on Facebook and see if we can get some others involved.

So can I put you down for another $50? ;)

I'm bumping this thread in an effort to garner more support for the BEF. I do admire your enthusiasm, Dr. Dave, and I'm sure the BEF is appreciative for what you're doing.

I may donate next year again, but I'm a wee bit on the shortskies at this time. Taxes, new furnace/AC, and dental bills are keeping me broke. :frown:

Wishing you much success in your fund-raising efforts!

Thanks. I'm sure the BEF appreciates your past generosity, even if they haven't thanked you appropriately yet.

The total AZB donations are now up to $320. With my match of $320, that's brings the current total to $640. That's more like it. Hopefully, more people will contribute, even if only small amounts. The BEF will accept any amount, regardless of how small. Even $5 will be helpful. Anybody can afford that ... at least, anybody able to to own a computer, have Internet access, and participate on AZB!

Regards and thanks to everyone so far,
Dave

PS: And a special thanks goes out to 12squared and Bob Jewett who helped get things started. Way to go!

I'm not trying to cast a negative light on a thread that exemplifies what we mean when we talk about "improving pool", but I think it shows how pathetic the state of pool is when a pool website with over 33,000 members, 2,000 which actually login daily, cannot come up with more than a paltry few hundred dollars to aid a very good organization that supports the industry and aids in the teaching of our YOUTH and working on up from there. I bet there will be a sh*tload of people who are regular members of this site that will grease the palms of someone in a bar/poolhall with lost money in the next few days that could have actually done something beneficial to the American pool scene. Probably half of them are regular posters in the "What we can do to improve pool" threads :(.

We need more Laura Smiths, Tom Rossmans, Bob Jewetts, Dr. Daves, and the like in our culture. Lots more!!!

Maniac (sorry for the brief hijack)

Pretty much why I doesn't bother me to donate. I would have given more but Paypal is slow; I'll be lucky to see that money make it there by the 15th, let alone the 3rd. But if I sat around on arse and whined about losing a whole $100 to someone on a silly bet I couldn't really complain about donating $20, $50, or $100 to an organization that helps pool get more players, supporting the rooms, cuemakers, and other vendors. Even if the whole organization was a sham (and I'm not saying it is) spending $xx.xx to get 1 more player out there is worth it.

Don't tell Dr. Dave, but I am planning on bugging him to continue his matching beyond the $500 he committed to do (which I think is awesome by the way!). Please don't stop donating because you think it has a hard cap at $500. If I am unsuccessful in getting him to do more, the BEF benefits regardless...but I will try, hard. ;).

Thanks to all that have donated thus far, and, and that includes all those that donated earlier in the year (JAM!).

Just so you know, I am friends w/Laura Smith who runs the BEF organization tirelessly. She appreciates all your generosity whether she's able to get back with you directly or not.

But it would still be fun to torture Dr. Dave some more :).

Dave,

We're up to $420 now.

Your post gave me a great idea. Why don't you add $80 to your previous $20 to make it a nice round number ($100)? ;)

That would bring the AZB total to $500. With my match of $500, that would be $1000 total to the BEF. Then any additional donations will be on top of that.

I'm sure I will contribute more in the future, and I will continue to donate my instructional products for the BEF tournaments, where the books and videos are given away as prizes; but for now, I think my $500 cash match is enough.

Thanks again for encouraging others (and me) to contribute more. You helped get the ball rolling with this fundraising drive. I hope it keeps rolling over the weekend.

Regards,
Dave

I may donate more, even though I donated earlier in the year. But I will still bug you to donate more matching stuff just because it's fun :).

Thanks for all you do for the billiard community and BEF. We love you (now that should be worth another $100 in matching ;) )
