Why are you three making yourselves dependent on others? Why not go ahead and donate $1500 each and set an example for others?
Fran,

The reason is simple: To raise more money for the BEF!

I've done this for several years now, and AZB members have always maxed out my match. In other words, I have paid $500 to the BEF every year, and I expect to do so again this year. Last year, Bob and I both put up $500 matches, and we raised $2080 through AZB. This year, Jay has also joined us so we can attempt to raise over $3000. If we did what you suggest instead, simply contributing non-matching funds to the BEF and asking others to contribute too, I doubt we would raise as much. Matching funds help encourage people to contribute because they know their money is being doubled.

Also, it is more fun this way.

Regards,
Dave

PS: How much should we expect to double from you this year? ;)

Glad to hear it. Then after everyone has made their donations that you've matched, then you three can surprise everyone by making up the difference of up to 1500 each.

Wow. This is a new low, even for you. If you honestly can't see the problem with criticizing people (publicly no less) who are trying to raise funds to help out kids, by offering to match other people's contributions up to a certain amount in an effort to help motivate people to donate, then please go ask some of your unbiased friends for their opinions on it and you will quickly hear just how out of line you are assuming they can be trusted to be honest with you.

It seems to me that perhaps you are letting your personal feelings or dislikes for certain individuals cloud your judgement and make you lose whatever sense of logic you may have had. If one of them were donating their left kidney to a dying person you would find a problem with it. It's called blinding bias, and it isn't a good look for you.

Put me down for a $100 Dr. Dave. I want to thank you, Bob and Jay for what each of you do for the great sport of pocket billiards. I am proud to be a part of enabling these juniors to have a chance to play the other elite youth's and to play on the best equipment at a great event.

Fran,

Again, the goal is to max out our matching contributions to raise as much money as possible for the BEF ($3000+). This has not been an issue in any of the past years we've done this (i.e, AZB members have always come through and matched the full amount, and more).

However, if the match isn't maxed out this year, which would be unfortunate, I would still be more than happy to contribute the same $500 I've always contributed.

Do you plan to help out also?

Regards,
Dave

For those who have promised money but haven't contributed yet, please send your money via the BEF donation page so Samm Diep won't need to follow up with you. She is very busy over the next month or so, and we don't want to burden her with additional work.

Thanks,
Dave

Please forgive me. I don't know names but so far we've received $890 in donations. I didn't notice the $10 or $25 donations come through but there were (8) $100 donations, (2) $20 and (1) $50.

We're more than half way to reaching this year's goal of $3,000 (total w/ matching funds).

THANK YOU GUYS FOR YOUR GENEROUS SUPPORT!!!

We still have a ways to go to max out the $1500 match. Please consider contributing, even if only $5 or $10. That's not much to ask for the future of our sport.

Thanks,
Dave
