SVB break

I don't have a Facebook Account, but assuming we are talking 9ball, Shane has not had the best break in the world for a few years now.

When Matchroom gave 9ball a facelift in August 2022, mandating four-inch pockets, nine on the spot and the break from a small break box, Shane's days of dominating with his break came to an end. In fact, he has not won a Matchroom major since.

I feel he had the best 9ball break up to 2022, especially from 2011-2016, and his 10ball break is still as good as anybody's, but the evolution of the rules has been unkind to Shane and has partly neutralized the breaking advantage he once enjoyed.

Of course, if this Facebook post predates August 2022, I agree with the conclusion reached.

It's funny how a pouchy guy like SVB could break those balls so hard. I'm not an expert on the physics of breaking, but I'm thinking accuracy is significantly more important than power / cue ball speed.

Yeah, I don't have a FB account either. How about doing us guys a solid and posting the video instead of the FB link?

For those who don't have a FleeceBunk account, here is the original video (or maybe a break medley from the real original video) of Shane breaking. For the break shown in the clip above, go one minute in.

That precision and technique.

It's not all about power.

Yeah, that was an impressive breaking display. Squatted that cue ball perfect probably half the time. Thanks for posting.

I don't think anyone works on the break as much as Shane. At least this seemed true long ago, probably still true now. When you have a good break already it forms the basis for some luck to happen on top of that.

My best is only five balls, eight and nine ball. Funny thing, I remember being corner hooked on a pocket with a wide open table aside from that when five balls went down once playing nine ball. Pretty sure I lost!

When Predator had their 8-Ball Championship in Austria, me and my friends were playing in our club one evening and Shane and Tyler came in to get some extra practice time during the event.
Shane started working on his break and it was like someone was throwing bombs on the table next to us.
I mean we have some of the top Austrian amateurs in our group, experienced players, who know how to break the balls on a pool table...but the power and precision Shane can put in his break shot is outstanding.

And I think this really seperates the top pros from all the other good players out there.
While many players can pot balls and run some racks, the excellence in breaking, kicking or safety play is the factor the really seperates the pros from the rest.

shane won two US opens (2014, 2016) with 9 on the spot, break box, 3 balls in kitchen rule. it's not like he's a one trick pony when it comes to the break, he knows all there is to know. won the PLP event last year, broke great. US open finalist last year also. i don't think he's far behind the best WNT breaker, whoever that would be (filler probably). if something has changed, it's his day to day consistency. it showed at the european open and again at the PLP

Agreed, he is still one of the best breakers. I only took note that he used to dominate with his break, and tighter pockets and a super-tight break box has changed that. Matchroom has changed the formula for winning, and nobody is stringing many racks together the way Shane did in the 2010s, when he was winning most of his majors. More racks than ever come down to who can beat their opponent to the shot.

Not sure who has the best break at 9ball. Probably Max Lechner.

I don't have an aiming system but I use one of Shane's and its been so helpful. I only use it for a particular cut. I can probably close my eyes and still make it. The aim is the same on easy cut shots to hard cut shots. It goes in.

It motivates me to see what other insight he has.

was shooting pool a few years ago
and this guy comes in and takes the table next to me

i didn’t look at him but noticed he was checking me out for a moment

i heard his break and could not believe
the sound he made, it wasn’t just loud
it was painfully loud, unbelievable and extraordinary

i looked over, it was shane

Billy Johnson said his biggest knocker in action was the sound of his break.

Sounds to me like they broke 9 ball!
