SVB v. Fedor Gorst

I was watching soccer, but thanks, anyway.
Yes, as noted in another thread, although I left London when I was four months old, I am English born, so it is exciting for me that England is still in the mix.

I bet/hope Mex Lechner and Felix Vogel, two very serious fans of Bayern Munich, for whom English superstar Harry Kane plays, will be rooting for England.

Sorry, but Dennis was not close to being in the conversation with Shane, and Dennis would not get in the box with JL Chang. I saw Chang bark at him a few times at Derby City, but Dennis knew better. Review Dennis' career and you'll see that his title count at the majors is a bit light. He's a deserving BCA hall of famer, but not even close to being in the GOAT conversation.

No, Shane was not better back in the day. In the break from the kitchen with 4 1/2" pockets days, his break was so strong that he was able to overcome some minor tactical weaknesses. Today's tighter pockets and tougher break rules have transformed both 9ball and 10ball into games in which defense and kicking are far important than in the past. Although he won a WPA World 9ball title in 2022, Shane has not won any of the WNT majors in any of the five seasons in which that tour has existed. That's largely because, since 2019, the fields have been much tougher than when Shane was winning most of his titles.
I would argue that defense and kicking would be even more important if the jump cue was banned.

Absolutely right. Pool is a better game without the jump cue, but it's not going away in an era where cue manufacturers are making so much money off jump cue sales.

Even Derby City, which disallowed jump cues for decades, has relented and now allows jump cues in the 9ball event.

HOW, next question. ;)

Gee, I don't know. How hard do you play for your money?
I invest the same amount of effort for my money as I do for free. Anyone who is fine with losing because they don't risk losing money is a straight up loser. Shit, win or lose money doesn't even mean much to a lot of gamblers, its just more fun tickets to gamble away.

I believe as we age our reflexes, sighting and stamina erode. So is Shane on the downside of his career? Maybe and maybe not. I watched with great interest George Foreman recapturing the Heavyweight Boxing Championship at 45 yrs of age. In his interviews after his career was over, he spoke at length about boxing skills leaving as you age. He said its all true except punching ability is the last to leave. He meant once you learn how to punch you'll always have that skill. Well, Shane can "punch" the balls. His break is his strength and as long as he stays active he'll be in matches because of his break. Playing the rotation games esp 10 ball he's still unbelievable. IMO he's the man in this aspect of the game. So, don't count him out just yet.

So is Shane on the downside of his career?
Yes.

He's still late prime, and perhaps nearly as good as he ever was, but he's clearly losing stamina. At his age, about to be 43, he's just going to inch downward from here, in all facets of the game.

Definitely call me a loser then. When I'm just playing a game for fun—not a tournament and not for money—I'm often trying fun shots that I would never try for money, and I'm also spending time chatting with others and concentrating just enough to make sure I know when it's my turn...
