SVB v. Fedor Gorst

SVB and Fedor should spend more time practising for the Mosconi.

Nobody cares about a race to 50.

We care about the Mosconi
Playing the continent of Europe is always going to be an uphill battle with the current available American talent. There’s a big drop off after Fedor and Shane. And Shane typically hasn’t played well. A lot of years in the Mosconi. On the other hand, Europe has about 7 to 8 guys to choose from that could beat the USA team.

Random observation...

At 21-21 the odds to win were Fedor (54%), SVB (46%).

I'm surprised that there was an 8% gap, given their Fargo rates are only 4 points apart; 850-846.

If you asked me to guess what the % difference in chance-to-win, in what would be a race to 29, I would have thought 4 Fargo points would amount to maybe a 51-49% or 52-48% difference.

EDIT TO ADD:

Then, one game later with Fedor ahead 22-21, his odds jumped to 59-41%.

Wow.
Yeah completely agree. I watched from the beginning for about the first hour continuously and couldn’t believe how quickly they were changing. I actually thought the odds were wrong, so I checked with the FargoRate app and they were indeed correct. Surprised as hell.

And at the current 25-22, it's 70%-30%!

But note that when SVB was ahead 17-11, it was 72-28 for him. That didn't last long!

Seemed like Shane lost a little of his spark towards the end of yesterday. Commentators said he gets up too early and should sleep more. Maybe they passed along this info to him but when you are used to a sleep cycle, its hard to break it.
They are starting earlier today. Maybe that will help him.

Edit: typing that made me realize they'd already started. Tune in to see 32-24 Fedor. So much for that idea...

Speak for yourself. To many the Mosconi Cup is a carnival side show.
The Mosconi Cup is the biggest event in pool and creates the most pressure for players.

It's pool's equivalent of the Super Bowl or Ryder Cup.

Listen to what SVB said about the Mosconi in a podcast earlier. Starts at 1:13:40 and I think if you click play below, it takes you there.

Maybe to you it is, maybe to SVB it is. To me and some others it’s a circus show. The format of it is more like league pool than pool. To many players, this is an individual sport, not a team thing, and being an individual sport is the reason they choose to play it in the first place. 🤷🏻‍♂️

I take that as Shane is a responsible person with a real schedule, and the rest are pool room bums!

<=== bum here.

Shane is laying an egg today:( He started so strong yesterday I thought he might double Gorst.
I also feel like Shane gives up to some degree. Both in the last race to 120 vs Fedor and this one he seemed to go limp and listless almost conceding when he still had a reasonable chance.

He’s been like that since TAR 5 (or whichever number it was) vs Alex. At least that’s how it looks to us watching. Idk what really is in his head.

IMO SVB may be stroking the sponsors/MR on this. He's always been, and always will be, a 'lone wolf' type of player. Team play has never been his bag and his play often shows it pretty clearly. One's greatness is achieved in tournament play over time and in this regard SVB answers to no one. I'd love for someone to tell me just how the MC is such a 'greatness decider' when NO asian players compete in it. Seriously, its an exhibition made for tv by MR. If you dig it, great.

These long races really mean nothing.
Best of 5 races to 9 would have much better and give a more realistic picture of who is the king of the hill
