SVB vs Strickland race to 11 on 8/22/18 6pm EST

Now it is 8-7 Earl. Very tough table. Hardly a ball made on the break

Yes, and it was not a particularly well played match. The number of fouls and missed shots exceeded the number of games. 12 of the 20 breaks were unsuccessful. The breaker lost 14 of the 20 games. The only break-and-run game was the last.

[Agree, tough table.]

There is a house for sale at 250 Earl Strickland Rd, Spruce Pine AL...
...appraised at $239,900

I wonder if the price just went up.

Yeah, the 7-ball Shane missed in the opening game was shocking - even on what I'm guessing is about 4-1/8" pockets. When I get a chance, I plan to watch the entire match.

Anyone that has played on that tight a table will tell you that any shot can be missed at any given time if you make the mistake of taking it for granted, even by a top pro player.

Table is 4 1/8. It plays very tough for just 3/8 tighter.

Earl played great. I was pulling for him. The man can flat out play pool.

Was a terrific night. 18 players in the pro/am and we ran 6 eight player amateur bar box mini tournaments $40 entry. We had standing room only for the exhibition. Shane and Earl were great with the fans.

January we will try to do something bigger for the Salt City Billiards 4th edition.

Once a table's corner pockets get tighter than 4-1/2", every 1/8" tighter makes it play so much tougher than you can possibly imagine, especially for us amateurs. Even the difference between 4-1/4" and 4-1/8" corner openings is huge. Obviously that also includes making it considerably harder to pocket any balls on the break in 9-ball or 10-ball, even for a pro player.

To give some perspective, when I practice 14.1 on our 4-1/2" pocket tables, I can string 2+ racks (28+ ball runs) at least twice every three hour practice session, but when I practice 14.1 on our 4-1/8" pocket table, running 2 racks (28 balls) is an accomplishment I can do no more than maybe once every 5 three hour practice sessions. The difference is just hard to explain unless you've experienced it.

I've come to the conclusion that although it may be great practice, 14.1 is not meant to be played on tight pocket tables, but I love the challenge. Sorry to change the subject from the title of this thread, but seeing some of the shots these guys missed made me feel better about my unexplainable misses.

So who won the tournament...Billy Thorpe collected his usual paycheck?

I totally agree.

What I love about Diamonds is even with tighter pockets they play correct on shots down the rail or shallow angle shots by accepting the ball. You can't hit them hard, but you shouldn't be playing shape where you have to. They make better players.

Billy had his flight cancelled yesterday due to Chicago weather.
We had 18 including 5 Pros
SVB
Frankie Hernandez
Bucky Souvanthong
Erik Hirliegson
Ryan McCreesh

SVB over Souvanthong in finals
Hernandez beat Horliefson hill hill to move on and then lost to Souvanthong. Hernandez took 3rd/4th along with Steve (amateur from Canada)

Earl didn't play the main....said something about being tired and hating single elimination. Earl was terrific. Perfect gentleman and engaging with fans. I love that he won and should have bet high cause I heard people saying he needed 2 games from SVB. He didn't yesterday.

January we will put on something bigger for Salt City Billiards 4th Open/Exhibition. Shane will be on if he play that Turning Stone and I'd love to see Shaw. What I really want us a long race for real money...If stream that along side our Pro am. If I could get Bergman vs Shaw race to 25 I would be all in....with shot clock.

Thanks SCB for putting this on!
It was a great way for some of us who don't get to major tournaments to see our heroes up close and informal. As was said, they were both personable and interactive.

There were comments that Shane did not seem to be fully on his game. What was true is that it was a very tight table with somewhat worn cloth: Earl *****ed, moaned & complained to the audience and acted like the table was there for the sole purpose of victimizing him - but in fact, Earl quickly adapted to the table as it existed and played it that way. This can also be seen on the Youtube video. He used feedback from Shane's mistakes and from his own & fluidly accommodated. Very high level professional skills. For whatever reason Shane did not fully adapt. By the end, Earl was getting in a groove, Shane looked tired.

Both put on a good show. From the spectator POV it was nice the table kept either one from running away.

Shane got to rack a couple more times than Earl. That's all it took.

Whose the crazy son of a ***** that thought it was ok to upload my content to a predatory platform? Someone actually uploaded the match from Billiardnet.tv. Getting legal notice immediately.

The nerve of some people.

So you were the dumbass taking pictures using a flash that we were talking about during the match directly at the players. Makes a lot of sense now. Take the video on Youtube down immediately.

Hmmm...some people jumping to some low conclusions here.

I'm a semi-pro photographer* and don't use flash. It makes for crap pictures. I also know about distractions at events. For some reason SCB heard my focus and assumed the same thing, instead of stopping the person who did not know how to take their phone off flash.

I also have nothing to do with your content. I don't even know how to access it (your content, since i am not on social media). It was on youtube when i got home.

You guys act like a bunch of prissy self entitled royalty. That tenor diminishes the afterglow of an otherwise great event.

So you are telling me that

The person who mentions the video on youtube WITHIN HOURS who had pictures from the event from the same angle that the flash was coming from who was reportedly the only one taking pictures DURING the match.

OK.

Sorry. Whomever it was is getting youtube account taken away I've already sent DMCA notice.

What do you think he will get? 5 years, 10 years, life with no parole, hard labor, possible lethal injection or firing squad?
