SVB will be the first millionaire pool player??

terryhanna...The $50K check from CJ was Earl's first year's payment on the 20 yr. annuity. The case never went to court. It was settled out of court for $650K. Earl got $300K, CJ got his $50K back, and the lawyers got the other $300K.

Earl got 50k paid out of CJs own money right after he won
the million was to be paid 50k a year for 20 years by the insurance co
but Earl took a lump sum after the case was won
in court

He actually did get paid, and the entire story is on the documentary ( www.cjwiley.com ) 'The Million Dollar Pool Shot' - which has the actual footage from the event and interviews with Jay, Max Eberle, Earl Strickland and several other eye witnesses to this historic event.

Thank you CJ for posting this. I have been trying to find video of the million dollar challenge for a little while now.

Lol @ 200k sponsorship money. SVB, my guess would be he gets about $12,000 a year from Cuetec, definitely no more than 24k.

Well i am not sure if a court room was involved
but there was a legal battle with lots of lawyers and
a judge and as far as what earl got paid i think that is
what the lump sum value was of the 20 yr. annuity
same amount he would have got in the 1st place
he just had pay the lawyers to get it

Technically speaking

Steve Davis would be king of the hill if I'm not mistaken. I think he was making American pro athlete money at the time, somethingn like 2-3 mil a year and highest payed in England period

Shane will probably be a millionaire when he retires. He is already investing money in retal property and things right? At least that's what I have heard.

Snooker isn't pool.

Not to derail the subject, but I have to hand it to CJ that he stepped up and wrote that $50,000 check when the insurance company balked. That single act speaks volumes about the man.

Jeanette Lee ???

Yep. In her prime, she was pulling in $750K a year from sponsorships and tourney wins. She was probably the first player to have $1M sitting in a bank account available for her personal use. Probably the first one to have $5M as well ;)

At least american. I'm sure efren is a millionaire in the Philippines with the exchange.
but anyone else ever made this kind of money in pool??

Looked up the definition of a millionaire!
A millionaire (originally and sometimes still millionnaire[1]) is an individual whose net worth or wealth is equal to or exceeds one million units of currency. It can also be a person who owns one million units of currency in a bank account or savings account

If SVB got it then he is up there!! i hope

Are you talking winnings or net worth? Unless he has good investment that make his winnings grow it is not so easy to accumulate a million dollars and even harder to keep it.

Now he may be a millionaire anyway. There are a lots of rich people who inherit wealth, there are plenty of them walking around. But to become a millionaire just from pool, it would be really hard.

The average working couple in the last 5 years has made maybe $300,000.00
And may not have a cent of it today. Cost money to live. It is not easy except with wise investments that may grow exceptionally to get your hands on a chunk like a million.

true that. but he's single and living in SD isn't too expensive. of-course ive taken into account expenses, but here's the difference between the average couple or person working. they make 50 grand a year, which is good money, they get paid weekly/bi-weekly. he gets 10/20/30 grand in one shot, much easier to invest than receiving 700/800 a week. no?? either way, I want to see SVB one day be featured in a nationally syndicated show talking about pool and why our kids should play it. I like the hustle and gritty life side of pool as much as anyone, it's exciting and all that, but a legit pro who can make a living playing the game is also kind of cool and exciting. there's enough pool players that have done that that can be counted in one or two hands.

The fact that someone thinks the best way to earn a living is to play pool pretty much guarantees they're no personal finance expert.
