SVB withdraws from future WPA events

Economically this is a win for lower tier players and a black mark against the WPA/ACBS governance.

Should players that do compete in WPA events feel like they can stand in solidarity and play? The politics of this focus on who is left to win the prize money.

If there is no field, in the past WPA has reduced prizes. However a champion is still named. Paper champions are still champions.

When the time is ready the competition is always there for champions to settle scores later after a better pool world is secured.

I was most surprised to see Filler join, in the past he has been unusually supportive of the WPA (perhaps justifiably so given the support European players once received from their federation).

I'm happy the players are standing together but I hope the WPA simply changes its stance rather than disappears completely.
I do not want MR to control all of professional pool. Having every pro tournament PPV in the US is a sure way to kill the future of the sport here.

I don't get this jaw jacking ever since it started. The MR/WNT group will do whatever they want and the WPA can do whatever they want, at the end of the day we as viewers don't really get effected by this. And truth be told, neither do the players.

Tend to agree here. Truth be told other than Heyball there's nothing really tempting WNT players to 'cross the street' anyway.

I/we copy and paste.

Players = pawns...SSDD.
I didn't want to be that guy, but it sure feels like all of this is just the players being told what to do. Since when have the players actually looked out for each other in a sincere way when it comes to governing bodies and whatever else in the world of pool?

Standing with Asian players is a huge statement to the pool community.

Asian news is best curated through non Asian players impacted by poor policy making by governing bodies in Asia.

Asians have limited career choices and their own sports organizations are denying them access to pool competitions.

Without top Americans or pool players leading the charge criticizing poor policies, Asian players will always be silent when it comes to criticizing political/organizational leadership, its a culture that is trying to change. Asian communities will not openly discuss the escalation of riff between WPA and non WPA players.
Sounds like a job for barpa.

Or maybe the Harriman 14.π m-acadamie.

Surely your amazing and effective skills would help oh God, I can't pretend to be serious about you accomplishing anything.

This whole lame saga belongs on old-school SNL 'Weekend Update', maybe followed by a good 'Jane you ignorant slut' for good measure. ;)
Pretty much anything followed by sluts is good though.

As long as ppv make$ $ense it will continue to be the presentation method.

I think there’s only a couple paths forward.

WPA relinquishes its self-presumed governing role as the sole universal authority over all pool, specifically relinquishing its assumed authority over Matchroom’s commercialized pool tour. And then events have the opportunity to dual sanction without too many WPA constraints upon them. This may require reigning in the ACBS or kicking them out like what happened with the APBU.

Or the WPA maintains full strict authority over its own private bubble of semi-pro pool aligned with Olympic-affiliated goals and structure. And the WNT continues on unaffiliated and not permitted to participate in the WPA structure and benefits.
