Sweet SW style pins....

I just wanted to take a moment and share. Recently I've been using the excellent new pins offered by Lee aka Brianna187. I use the brass SW style 3/8-10 and these pins are the best I've ever used. Absolute flawless quality & for only six bucks & change each. Here is what I wanted to share...I have always used the alignment barrel pins when using this style and thought the barrel was the nuts. Well I must confess...I now like Lee's pins better than the barrel style. Lee's pins install like a normal old style 3/8-10 and you don't have the extra step of boring for the barrel. I was concerned how true they'd install without the barrel...well they are even more true. Every single one spins so true it looks like its not moving. Very nice. You would not of convinced me of this before I installed a few. I really hate using any other pin now...pretty much spoiled me. Just placed my second order today. I also want to add that while I've never dealt with Lee before, its been a pleasure. The pins arrive 2 days after I Paypal. One day I'll learn to machine my own pins...until then...these are definately the hot ticket. No more overpriced barrel style for me. If you haven't already, give these a try...you'll be quite pleased. Thank you for a great product Lee!:thumbup2:

How are the treads cut in the wood for instalation?

That is the question. For a pin to run true it is much more dependent on how true the threads are cut than who made the pin. This is why I use a pin with a barrel. With a barrel, how true the threads are installed and fit the pins is immaterial. The bored hole for the barrel determines the accuracy and makes for a much easier, maybe even fool proof perfect installation. Counting on a tap to cut perfectly and concentrically is hit and miss at best in my opinion.

Dick,
I mean this question sincerely......is the above true when you are using live tooling to cut internal threads? Thanks.

If done correctly, probably not. When live tooling is in use it is much more like the precision of a boring bar than the hit and miss whims of a tap. What is hard for me is getting the live tooling to cut to the precise, correct depth and profile. With a barrel, the threads in the butt do not affect the pins concentricity. If the barreled pins are made correctly, which all are not by the way, the threads that go into the butt are loose and only there to keep the pin from being pulled out.

Why would the depth of the thread matter Dick?
The pin is going to ride the minor diam. anyway.
Cut the threads then follow with a tap just to make sure the threads are deep enough.

I think three piloted taps would make tapping much more accurate. Two undersized ones to get the threads started then a full size.

Wait a minute, Joint screws without a shoulder and straight, OHHHHHHH say it ain't so,,,,,,,,,,,,
Hate to say I told you so BUT

i originally talked to lee a few years back about making these style pins without the barrell. i dont know if thats why he did it but i think it is a step that is not NEEDED. ive done them with the barrell for years

i mean we put in other pins accurately without a barrell. why are these pins different

Dave sorry i missed your call i have been going 7 days a week very busy and thanks for sending that ill be in touch soon...lee

I got one of these pins from Lee and I think they are sweet. They look good, fit good and feel good. Good job Lee on another great product!!!

With your style of cue Mr. Varney, that pin looks great! How does the hit feel? Probably pretty good I imagine. COCO is right, you need a VC stamp, that would look pretty classic.

I tried some and I must state that they are easy to install and run the truest of any pins I've ever used ... Look great , and you can't beat the price ...
