i just got a new to me gc2
need a light
the brunswick is really pricey
the diamond still pricey but less so
i find many 4 shade lights off a bar

could you guys tell me the your experiences with lighting your tables??

any brands to stay away from??

certain specs important??

any advice would be appreciated

i posted this over at the room owner section also
but curious what home table users would say

thanks in advance

I picked up a used diamond light at an action for a very good price. It is much better than the four bulb fixture I had before.

If you are handy you can make your own light. Search this forum there are a few threads about it.

Buy the Diamond light....it's a nice piece of furniture for your home.

depends on what you want. A piece of furniture or some damn light.
I just wanted som damn light, so I got this ($25):

I hung 1 or these on each end to really shine it up($1):

I am very happy with my Toltec 4 lamp fixture. The Diamond light will arguably light up your table the best. However, the style you want will ultimately dictate what you buy.

I bought my Toltec from...

http://www.billiardwarehouse.com/lighting/bar_light_index.htm

They seemed to have very good prices and Greg was a pleasure to deal with.

One more thing...make sure that the lampshades on your fixture are glass, not plastic. The plastic shades are more common than you think and it is hard to tell which are plastic by some website's descriptions and pictures.

BB, ya gotta lose the Christmas decorations....
...every time you sell out, they gonna think you're Santa Claus.

And the Diamond light is not just nice furniture...it lights up the table evenly.

I would go with a used Gold Crown light since they work great and match your table. I bought one a year old in perfect condition 5 years ago for $400. If you are patient you will find one.

why glass??
whats the problem with metal or plastic

no one else has any advice regarding lights for your pool table??

I'm assuming it's a 9 foot table. If so, I have a 4 light hung from a bar fixture over my table. It has a brushed nickel look and lights the table very well.

I put 150 watt globe bulbs in it and the lighting is just fine on my 9 foot Anniversary. I purchased this fixture about 5 years ago from an online dealer; sorry I don't remember the site but I found it via a Google search for pool table lights. I paid about $120 plus shipping. You can probably expect to pay something in that same price range.

I agree that the Diamond light is really superior in how it lights up the playing field. I just coudln't fade the price.

I just bought my GC2 a few months ago and went through the same motions. I started to build my own light, and it looked really good, but I have a fatal flaw. I got about 1/2 way done with it and realized I could do a much better job if I attacked it a different way from the start and thought "I could finish it, but I know NOW how it should be done" so I scrapped it. In the interest of getting up and playing quickly I bought a 4 light bar style lamp like you're talking about on ebay for $99.00.

I haven't thought about it again since. The 4 bar light works just fine and I don't have any issues with it. It would have been nice to build a nice big flouro light, but in reality it's not the worth the headache to me. But of course my pool table is in my garage, if it was in my living room I suspect I'd feel much differently.

When I think of table lighting, I try and stay away from flourescents because they cycle at 160 per second and are very wearing on the eyes, especailly when your tired or if you play for long hours or after a long hard days work. Younger eyes of course can deal with this better, but Nothing better than good old fashioned bulbs. I would make it a four light fixture, bottom of the bulb 36'' off the play surface, and if you build it, make sure you don't make it too long and it gets in the way of your head as you rise up especially when racking and when breaking. Its inexpensive to try different bulbs to come up with different light effects. Make sure the light fixtures are either plastic (but they most likely won't have a white interior like the metal ones, or rounded/folded edges/white reflective interiors if you choose the tin/metal fixtures, which I like because they make a sound when banged into by mistake, and don't cut into the shaft. These lights being down the center of the table will Not interfer if you try and do a masse' shot on the outter sides of the table, like the large/heavy light fixtures that look like a pool table.
