Does anyone who used to play in the Philly area recall a pool player his name was Bernie Brooks?
Did he play pool or 3 cushion?

I am still waiting for the name of the place by Korvettes. Was that the Korvettes in Springfield? :scratchhead:
I seen a web-site for a place in norristown, Montco, Pa. Is it open ? Wassit like ?
Markleys is doing fine.
They cleaned it up a bit, got rid of the food tables that were between the outer row of pool tables and the inner tables and replaced them with a permanent wooden food counter. Nice touch.
Added some diamond bar boxes looking to get some leagues going.
And the houseman just happens to be the houseman that worked at Tacony for 17 years.
Houseman ....Ken??
Sorry to Jack this thread but this is great news......glad to see Markley opens at noon Weds-Fri.
So what happened to WIZ ...the x cook? Where will the Tacony crowd go after it closes. This is worse than H&H shutting down.

The last I heard Tacony Billiards is closing it's doors soon. The city and the school district are using the building for a new Charter School.
Korvettes Shopping Center at Welsh & Roosevelt Blvd in Phily. The room was MOULIN.
Have not been to Markleys in Norristown but spoke to the owner. He came up from Florida. Bought the place and fixed it up. He's trying hard to promote his room. I hope he does well.
Used to play a guy named "Sammy" in a Cheltenham bar every so often. Seemed like everyone knew him!
Remember the Cue & Cushion on Cheltenham Ave next to the Chinese restaurant?
hmmmm, you are jogging my memory here. I seldom played poolhalls back then. Bars and bowling alleys seemed the place to find peops that practiced,(away from poolhalls).
I do recall a place near there by Fox Chase Cancer Center. Maybe 1/2 mile from there off of Township line rd.
I also recall out that way a bar called the "Moose Lodge," but if I recall correctly it was a private club, and in Lansdale.
I woul like to know more about the place in Norristown. Next time I go by that way, I'll stop in .

Great article. Thanks for posting.
Frank,
I know all and played most of the names on that list. Charlie and I played nine ball and one pocket back in the day. Shaky, a roofer by trade, he hand was always shaking but managed to play a descent game of one pocket. I gained a ton of knowledge about the game thanks to those players named in the article. Reading this article brings back wonderful memories, miss all those guys.
