Talisman?

I use a talisman wb hard and I like it, but I'm just a ball banger so take it for what it's worth. I've been told by a couple guys who install tips that the delaminate sometimes when being installed, but I've had two of them installed on my Schon and have not had a problem.

For the record...

Molavia's regular (i.e. medium) tips, are really nice too.:D A little on the hard side, but man they hit tons!!!:cool: :D
 
I just had a Talisman put on my Reeve's cue and I like the hit.I think you haft to try differnt tips to find the hit your looking for and I think I have found it.

I'm just curious.
If you love the cue with the Triangle, why switch? :confused:

I have tried Talisman Pro medium tips. They are good tips and I never had a delam problem as some have. I do find the Talisman tips to run a just a little bit harder than the Moori medium tips. I like slightly softer tips, so they weren't for me. I have not had the opportunity to try the Talisman soft.

It all just comes down to personal preference. You can't really take someone else's word for what tip is best. what is hard for one player is soft for the next. You just have to try different tips, until you find one you like, and then stick with it.

Personally I have been hearing report of Talismans DELIMITATING. Seen one in a tournament DELIMITATE on a Break Shot.

I have been using Tiger Tips since I was turned on to the Tiger Hard Tip. for the MONEY I think Tigers are #ONE.

Recently (~3-4 months ago) had Talisman WB installed on my cue. Haven't done anything but pick a couple of times since. Maintains shape well and works good for me.
 
I had a Sniper and loved it compared to any other tip I'd ever used...until it delaminated after about 10 uses. So I bought another...which delaminated after about 10 uses.

I have tried LePros and IMHO they LeSuck for billiards like a LeCar did for cross country driving.

Triangles are real nice and very inexpensive but they wear quickly.

I now use a Talisman medium. It plays better than the Triangle or LeSuck and hasn't delaminated after being on nearly a year...although it's living on borrowed time.

The Sniper is over priced for it's longevity IMHO but plays great.

The Talisman isn't cheap for a tip, but it plays very well and lasts a long time.

Triangles IMHO are the value Kings in tips.

LePros are, IMHO, both inexpensive and overpriced at the same time. How can this be? Because they LeSuck at any price.

Here is my honest opinion of Talisman tips. They play great. The hard is hard & the soft is soft. I actually used to play with the soft pigskin...and prefered it over other tips. But...I had several from several different batches keep having the same issue. And it wasn't just my tips...other players as well. They would indeed delam. Koop...that means the layers start to seperate. It was easy to tell with the Talisman. They have very thin wavy layers. All laminate lines are very thin & look the same...then presto...you'll be looking at your tip (after only a week or two of play) and it quite easy to see that one of the lines is suddenly much bolder/blacker/larger/wider. Upon closer inspection, as in slightly pushing the edge of the tip (under good lighting) you could see that the blacker line was seperating. If you kept playing it would play fine. It was just that under even closer inspection you could see that chalk was entering at that layer. If you pushed the tip off causing it to indeed seperate...you could clearly see blue almost halfway through the tip. So the tip was indeed ruined and coming apart. After many long emails with Tony explaining my step by step process...we couldn't figure it out. He was indeed most helpful and replaced all bad tips. He said NOT to use marker on the tip, the alcohol in the marker could cause it. Any polish or liquid could cause it. Heat could cause it. Dull install tools could cause it. He basically said just don't "wet" the tip in any way & to only burnish it lightly. I did all he said, still had the problems. Went back couple of years later, same thing. I bet if a lot of you members using them go look closely, you'll maybe see what I'm talking about. Most players simply don't notice it or know what to look for...and you may play years with one coming apart...and not know it. Most don't even know its a problem until it comes off or starts "clicking".
With that said...many of the finest custom makers alive use them as their standard tip...such as Bluegrass & Josey...so as I said, they do play well. My experience was limited to the pig skin version...I had no problems with the WB. I had others voice similar experiences as well so I decided not to offer it any longer as my main tip suggestion. I do still have plenty who use & love them with no problems. I just choose to personally use another brand of tip. Allie & Gerda both tried them as well...and came back two days later...wanting Moori's instead. I have seen this issue with other tips occasionally too...I've even seen it with Snipers...but only a couple. No issues whatsoever with Moori/Kamui/Molavia.

If you are having layered tips delam consistently, I would look at installation and care before passing blame to the tip itself. Once maybe. Twice, i guess it could happen. But over and over again, its not the tip, its you or the installer, simple fact.
All these different tip makers aren't in the business to screw people by having them repurchase their tips over and over again, after a few times most "normal" people would move on to something else and word-of-mouth will travel.
#1 reason a layered tip will come apart is because you got it too hot from burnishing/shaping it and the glue softened.
Another reason is, don't use a "tip pick" on a layered tip. Common sense should tell you why that isn't a good idea. If its not holding chalk like you prefer, a light "scuffing" should suffice.

If by not cheap you mean compared to a .15 LePro then no. But $15 for 3 layered tips is pretty cheap, especially compared to the cost of the cue you are installing it on.:)

SDF......I always try to be. Just sometimes you can be to stand up but i do my best everyday to treat people the way i want to be treated.. after all, that is what the world is suppose to be like.......mike

I assure you thats not the case. As I said, I went over every step in great detail with Tony. I never said they were trying to "screw" people either. I believe I am quite competent at tip installation.:rolleyes:
I understand that you are upset with this thread...since you just wanted to buy 3 Talisman from TannerPruess.
