Talisman

Anyone own one of their 2 x 4 Cases, New or Old Style. Anyone had personal experience with them. What are the Pros, and Cons of the Talisman Case? ;)

Az, I will have one within the next week or so. I will drop you a note when I get it in and maybe we can get together here in town so you can check it out.

Tony makes a great case. He has been a big supporter of the Amateur 9-Ball Tour in the past and he says that he will continue in the future. I love the styles and the way they are made. I didn't really see anything con about them and as far as I know the winners of those cases from last year are still using them to this day. Last I heard he was working on a new line and I am excited to see them.

Mike as I am coming into some Money, I really would like to get a Nice 2 x 4, and would like to know which Talisman you got. NEW or OLD Style. Have noticed the Talisman is one of your sponsor. So I though I would have about 500 Replies. (Just Kidding). Please let me know what your impression are of your New Talisman.

I´ve got a brown tribal case and I think it's brilliant. It's a very nice case that fulfill it's aim to protect my love, and it's looking damned nice....

The only things that's on the minor side is that it's bigger than most cases, and that it keeps sliding of my shoulder when carrying it...

Don't own one. But I probably would own one except for one thing. The unbelievably ugly huge logo on the front. I want to like them and get one, but even though the pics don't highlight the logo, IMO the case is ruined by it. Note to Talisman: I would love to see one without the logo. The tribal has a smaller version, but I don't like the logo and don't like the design. Great tips. Looks like you make a great case. Horrible logo. Sorry. If I pay that much for a case it needs to be plain or I will spend only a little more and get a custom.

At one time, Tony had his cases as well as his tips, made in Bangkok, Thailand. [ saw both of them being made a few years ago while in bangkok]. A fellow named "Lek" from China ran the leather factory.

Did Tony open a factory here in the states?

If so, I'm interested in a new line of cases for some of my cues.

If you going to take the step up to a custom and like a case with clean lines, which it sounds like you do, be sure to check out Whitten cases. I love mine.

Blud, I believe Tony and his factory are still in Thailand, but I have heard that he has a central U.S. distribution facility, or someone who is handling distribution for him.

For that kind of money, I would just order an entry level Justis. Here's a couple of mine. The first one is tooled saddle leather from 1995 - I use it daily. The second one is Palomino suede with aligator on the back.

I have been checking them out. I thought a lot about a justis and still am, but I am leaning to a whitten 2X4 with all the pouches and strap. I have not decided on the exact one tho, or how much to customize, etc... I will probably get one or order one in the next several months. Probably whitten, but I like the justis a lot too.

I'm a new and proud owner of the new Talisman Tribal case. I received it the first week of September and I couldn't be happier! I used to have a 2x4 Porper which was nice, but what I really love about the Talisman is that I can place my cues in it butt side down instead of having to rest them up against the wall while I play.

Also, the craftsmanship of the case is just awesome. Tony does have a U.S. distributor. Mine came straight from Thailand because the color that I wanted had been out of stock here in the U.S. and Tony was gracious enough to send it to me ASAP from Thailand. Also, the tubing inside of the case is rubberized so your cues are snug. Here's a pic of my case. I have the reddish brown one:

Along with my case I also received a Talisman polo shirt, Talisman towel, and a pack of Talisman tips. The case itself came inside of a Talisman black satchel which is pretty nice. I keep my case in it while not in use to protect it from dust. Here's some more info:

Talisman Tribal

It is a little on the bigger side, for instance when you put it side by side to a Porper 2x4, you'd think the Talisman is a 2x6 but it's really a 2x4. I told Tony that I feel like I need to be arrested for impersonating a pool player carrying such a nice case! LOL He also follows up with his customer to see how they're enjoying his product.

Enough babbling from me. Good luck!

I have seen a Talisman case and handled it in person. 2 things struck me about it. A) They are HUGE for a 2X4 case, B) they are HEAVY for a 2X4 case.

I am sure they protect the cue just great, they are akin to buying a tank for your daily commune to work for "safety" reasons. They are also very expensive. You can get a 3X6 Whitten for the same price as a 2X4 Talisman case, and I would think most would go for the Whitten.

Justis cases interest me. I would love to see one in person that was new and in good shape. Instroke had a case on display 2 years ago in Vegas they claimed was a Justis and it was in dreadful shape, it bent all to hell and the cue tubes moved all over the place as the case had NO structural support at all. Based on the tremendous amount of people that swear by Justis cases I think that case must have been a extreme example and for them to claim "this is what Justis cases are like" may just be underhanded sales tactics. Anyone who has Justis cases, how solid are they? Do they have stiff structural support or can you actually grab the outside of the case and compress the inner parts of it? I can tell they are works of art in looks, but just how functional are they for protection, would you say a Justis protects cues as well as a Whitten. Do Justis actually do their main job of protecting the cue equivalent to their price?

I don't like the stiff leather used to make the pockets on the Instroke and the Justis.

I like to carry a lot of "stuff" with me and these stiff leather pockets just won't handle what I consider to be the minimum amount of accessories I need....especially considering the glasses I have to carry.

I got a Lucasi soft case and put tubes in it. It holds more and weighs much less than the usual hard case.

A Whitten is like fine luggage covered in top grain upolstery leather. The leather is probably in the 1 mil thick range, maybe 3 ounces. They are very well built cases and I think they offer among the best protection available for daily use. The zippers are a little weak. I think most of the strength comes from the tubes. I think they have a foam core around the tubes but I don't know that the foam has any real strength. My other gripe is this foam makes the cases easier to dent.

The Justis is a very tough case and can't be dented. A 2/4 weighs about 5 pounds -so they're not light either. The leather on mine is nearly 3 mils, about 8 ounces. Leather this thick is quite tough. This is strap thickness. Inside, the tubes are lined ABS. Don't underestimate the strength of these ABS tubes. I saw a plumber run over a pipe with his truck with no damage to prove to me the drain would be nice and strong. The case itself almost can't be hurt. These cases are riveted and double sewn everywhere. The other thing that makes the Justis strong is that these cases are tightly built. There is no play at all in mine (between the leather and the tubes).

I've had (and still have) just about every high end case including Whittens. Whittens are like fine luggage and refined. Justis' are like fine art and appeals to the "just want it" animal in us.

You can order from Whitten. Or if you want one in a hurry, try IndyQ. I spoke w/ Roy Mallott about them the other day and he has some in stock and was extremely helpful. Not the perfect one for me, but they are nice cases. Call up Indy Q if you are looking. He can e-mail you pics of his stock.

The actually Whitten company also sell their cases on Ebay, and they tend to be a good deal on there.
