I would like to buy some tape for protecting the ferrule, while tipping a shaft. I have seen a light green tape used. Can you help me out here? Thanks much.
Please PM me so I won't miss the message.

He said he would like to buy some tape. I believe he want to know what kind of tape to purchase.

The blue and green tapes are low tack masking tapes for painting.
There is a range of low tack tapes with different rated adhesiveness, if that is a word..
I like to use the PTFE plumbers tape myself.

I have been installing tips for 20 years and have never used tape to protect ferrules. However, I have a new (used) Prewitt, with ivory ferrules, and I am a little anal about my new sweet heart. Thanks for the help everyone!

You don't have to use super glue if it's your cue.

It's always a good idea to clean the ferrule first, That way you don't run the risk of getting glue on the ferrule and in come cases gluing the chalk stains, I'm guessing he wants to tape the ferrule so you don't get any glue on the ferrule.

I clean the ferrule with alcohol and magic eraser, then I wrap it with a single layer of 1/4" wide blue painter's tape.
Sometimes a little cyano seeps under the end onto the ferrule, but not very deep, maybe 1/32 inch. The tape also serves as a tell-tale when turning down the tip. I put a stop on the carriage to stop the cutter from going onto the ferrule more than about 1/32 inch and when I get a little blue tape picked up by the cutter, I know I'm getting close. At that point I peel the tape off and proceed to finish trimming the tip at .001-002" increments until I"m flush on with the ferrule..
Works for me.

There are tapes used for automotive body work for masking the edge where finish will be shot. The stuff is only .002 thick so the finish won't tend to be too thick at the edge. They use it mostly for striping out intricate detail work. Works like a charm.

It's called fine line...
