TAR Podcast #19 with Mike Dechaine and Dennis Hatch now up on YouTube

Dechaine makes a lot of sense and he seems to be very enthusiastic about it. Hope it spreads. Re-watching it....Hatch is also supportive for a pool tour too. It just all makes so much sense. I don't understand how we can't have one.

Im glad Mike answered my question about promotional effort. Never knew he works for the APA. A real job??

Joking aside I hope they do more for the sport even if its doing appearances at a pool hall when in town for a tournament

How friggin lucky are we to live in this day and age where we can sit in our comfy chairs and watch a couple of heavyweights discuss pool from their POV?

Oh...and it happened yesterday!

I am @10.08 right now and they are still discussing goals/ the realities of pool as a career, but it is interesting to hear the looking-forward Deschaine's thoughts juxtaposed to the looking-back Hatch.

Another huge thing, IMO...the acknowledgement of SVB as a pro with huge clout in the pool world. I agree with that assessment of him and that is prescisely why it really bugs me that he allowes the organization du jour- ABP- to use his name. It is not just AZB that points at the ABP and laughs.

Thanks for the awesome, TAR.

This was probably my favorite Podcast yet.. I really like Mike D.. He seems to be a straight up guy with a strong passion for the game.. I think he has a really good chance of winning this challenge, time will tell!

I thought it was the best podcast to date also. It was a nice mix representing the world of pool. You had a pro player that's been playing since he was a young kid and is old school and winding down his career, a up and coming pro player still wet behind the ears, a top promoter that has been a player, promoter, room owner and lives and breathes pool, and a top event promoter/streamer that interacts with everyone involved with the game from the players, vendors, promoters and the public.

Everyone was very passionate and outspoken about their viewpoints and it resulted in a very lively discussion.

Many thanks for the excellent round-table. I would live to see that every week but am realistic about it, so I just enjoyed it for what it was.

Mark met his match and no one had any trouble jumping in at any time :D

I agree and fully enjoyed it.

Glad it came unedited...while it did take me over 3.5 hr to watch/ hear a 1.5 hr vid (not coz I'm's dum, I don't listen, ask my wife), glad it was unedited. Really gave time for the conversation to evolve.

They discussed a $2 per league player campaign for a pro tour. What will the league player get in return?

-A tour
-Better outlook for their sport
-Many more benefits but I'm too lazy to think of them now

All it takes is a compromise between APA and BCA because Mark threw his hand on the table saying "Lets Do This!"............What are we waiting for?

There is plenty of options:

1. Instead of making it a mandatory 2$ increase. It should be an option. As we know this, altho is an option, will yield a minimum of 10% of the field. If we are lucking....we will hit 15% or higher. Can't hurt right?

Props to Mark for initiating effort. Keep up the good work. Peace.

I really enjoyed that, Justin!

One observation I have -- I really noticed the age difference between Dennis and Mike, just by the things they said and how they conducted themselves. Dennis is more polished and more lucid with how he expresses himself, with no "pie in the sky" illusions. Mike is a work in progress. Also, Mike's insecurity came through as well -- especially when he kept harping on how he works 40 hours a week, how he only practices once a week, and how he's the "only pro" that does so (I rolled my eyes at that one!).

IMHO, anyway.

This was a great PODcast!

What exactly do you mean by this?? Just curious...

If his job is 40 hrs in a poolroom I don't count that unless he's a bartender. If he gets to play any pool those 40 hrs it's not a real job. Johnnyt

It's not obvious? Dennis has a good business sense -- he talks about the here and now, as well as what proved to be successful in the past (e.g. the Camel tour). Mike is enthusiastic -- that's for sure -- but he lacks this kind of seasoning.

Check out the podcast, Johnnyt. Well worth it.

Keep in mind...all 4 are AZBros. Like I said: Well worth it.

Watched the podcast this morning. Really made me excited about the future of Pool with Tar's new format.

That's what I thought you meant... Well sure I agree with the fact that Dennis and other guys his age have been around pool for a very long time. Him and they no the ins and outs or what will work and what doesn't but.... I think Mike has tons of enthusiasm and is young enough to possibly do something or create something. Nothing is written in stone so you never know what you can do. Will it be difficult?? You would be a fool to say it wouldn't be.. Will new ideas and ventures die as soon as it takes off?? Maybe but you never know until you try.

Most people are afraid to do anything that involves big to HUGE risks!! These "risk takers" are the ones that make the mold for the new.. The future and beyond. Look at any person in the history of man that achieved lasting change!! They took plenty of risk and put all their eggs in one basket.. They burned every bridge to lead them to safety if all failed. They so strongly BELEIVED that they would do what they set out to do and guess what?? They won!! They changed peoples lives forever!!!

Maybe Mike (Or anybody for that matter) will one day achieve his or their vision for something that they love!! They only way that will ever happen is if he disregards anything negative and never strays from the path to his goal!!

Here's a good example:

When I lived in Daytona Beach I wanted to start a DJ night at my local club. I told my resident DJ that I had this plan to gather people for my night. He laughed and told me that other people tired this and it failed miserably!! I had my doubts about that. I got some info on a party that was going on so I grabbed my clip board and headed out to the masses. When I got there I found the promoter and talked to him for a bit to feel out the crowd. Once I was comfortable I went around and pitched my idea to EVERYBODY in the place. I told them they could leave a phone number, or email if they didnt want me having their number, and I would contact them when it was going down. Everybody was all smiles as we joked and talked and drank. It was a pleasant and positive evening for sure.

Now after I gathered all of my resources I blasted everybody and told them to come on down to the party. We had 150 people show up!! On a SUNDAY NIGHT!!!! My boss couldn't believe it!! I had MY night ever Sunday after that and it was pumping!!

You know why it went off for my event?? First off because I knew that nobody else was doing anything for the scene there in Daytona so why not??? Why not do something (work) that nobody else is willing to do? I chose to make something happen and it did and was very successful.. It was all the work that I put in that paid off. All the going around town and introducing myself and buying a few beers and to have a laugh or two. Making people smile and showing them that you were on to something..

You get what you put into it and thats it. Sad to say but look at the state of affairs. You want things to be better than DO IT!!!!!! Do it or get your tent and setup camp at occupy (insert city) and wait for your hand out..

I believe in ya Mike.. DO IT!!!!

Sorry for the long rant.... Over
