TAR PodCast 31?

TAR podcast
Sorry - but the podcast will be this Thursday, January 10th.
Also the starting day of Turning Stone.
I am sure Justin will get the PPV codes up fairly soon - but not too far in advance cuz it evidently causes issues.
The event: SVB vs Darren Appleton is January 18-20- if a 3rd day is needed.
This thread can be turned into a 'topics you want discussed' if you want to put some ideas down.
There have been some conflicts between our schedules which prevented the last couple of weeks.
On a side note, how often should we have the TAR podcasts?
Myself, I prefer Thursday at 6 pm Pacific - and think every 2 weeks would be about right. Either that or a fixed day around the 15th and 30th of each month.
Most views do not come from the live broadcast, so that is not real important, but I believe in some kind of regular schedule is necessary - mostly so the viewers can follow along.

I say as often as you could possibly do them. I'd even prefer weekly, but since that may not be possible I'd say biweekly. You guys are really the only pool podcast that I know of so you're filling a good niche.
Why schedule anything against Turning Stone, poor planning by one or the other??
I seriously doubt the podcast will affect the Turning Stone in the slightest. If you're not familiar with what the podcast is it isn't an event. It's a video talk show for lack of a better word with Mark and Justin (and sometimes players) discussing news and topics of the day in the world of pool. Great for getting you through the work day.

We would NEVER schedule any kind of event on any other major event.
We don't do that - TAR doesn't and CSI won't do that.
So rest assured, there is no problem with conflicting with Turning Stone.
In fact, we might even increase the awareness of their event!

I think every other week is about right, unless it's a time of the year where there are multiple events happening one after another, which would give you different material that should be addressed.
I enjoy the podcasts a lot, and yes, I am one of the 90% that views it after the fact on YouTube. It's far more convenient for me. (And I'm usually shooting pool in the evenings EST, if at all possible. You usually run them on Thursdays, and that is one of my league nights. YouTube makes it so that I don't have to miss it.)

With Derby City coming up at the end of the month what are your plans for attending? What are some of your favorite or most interesting DCC experiences? Also, even though this month's TAR match is 10 ball are we going to see the return of the 8 ball, 10 ball, one pocket all-around format in the future?

It's easy for me to say, but it would be great if you did a podcast every week. You were doing that the first few months. Maybe you felt you were discussing the same topics too much, but it never seemed that way. The day of the week does not matter as long as it's posted on YouTube fairly quickly. I'm playing league Thursday nights but then can catch it the next day.
I especially like the episodes with players. I've rewatched a number of them because the players offer their opinions on every topic under the sun and I also find out a lot more about their history. Hopefully with players in town for Bonus Ball this year, you can make that a regular feature. Even if not, please continue the podcasts with just Justin and yourself.

- What is Justin's latest thinking on the format of TAR matches? Last summer it seamed they would move to an all-around format, to give variety, but now it's back to 2 out of 3 sets of 10-ball. (I really liked the all-around format, and it guaranteed a 3rd day).

I would like to see podcasts every other week. You could do second and fourth Thursday of every month.
As far as the Tar match times its always tough balancing act between east and west coast time difference. 6pm.PST works for me but I'm a west coast guy. 5pm would be about the limit of when you could do it. That would make it 8pm on the east coast (7pm in midwest) and should the round last about 4 hours your ok.
Thank you TAR/CSI for making these matches a reality. People don't realize what a monumental effort in logistics and sweat equity it is to pull one off. It's up to us in the pool community to support your efforts or simply sit on the sidelines and cry about the state of our sport. The matches you do are stuff we would only bullshit about in forums that you gents actually turn into actual events. Thx again.

There have been three billiard events on ESPN during December and January. If you have seen any of them, perhaps you can comment during the podcast.
I just watched the trick shot competition on ESPN. Overall I liked it, but was disappointed. Half the shots seemed to be versions of "Joe will jump 18 balls, one at a time, alternating hands". Jump shots after jump shots. No doubt the competitors jump infinitely better then I do, but I hardly ever see people jumping in the pool halls I go to. I much prefer trick shots that you can somewhat imagine coming up in an actual game. Like when they draw three rails or do a masse shot. Years ago trick shot competitions seem to be endless complex ball setups (like the famous "just showing off"). Now it's endless jump shots.
With that said, I attended a Mike Massey trick shot show last year and was very entertained. He did a lot of the old school complex ball setups, but he can set up the shots so fast you hardly realize he's doing it. He can set up the "just showing off" shot in about 10 seconds, all the while telling some road story. Good time.
