TAR PPV, Free Inside Pool, Regional PPV?

If you are one to buy TAR PPV that always has top player match ups and watch the free Inside pool streamed tournaments which are mostly filled with top players, do you still buy other PPV's that are mostly regional players with maybe one or two top players? Johnnyt
 
I tend to buy matches when they're promoted in an entertaining way... Geno and Bartram wasn't exactly a premier matchup, but I enjoyed it quite a bit.

Pool itself is entertaining to play, but its hard to get behind it as a spectator when there's no back-story. It needn't be reality TV, but some interaction between players and potential viewers would help. Otherwise, I can't find a reason to care which player wins.
 
I try to watch/support any pool streaming. I try to make the most of what I can offer. I view it as supporting pool, more than the individual streamer. A lot of times, I will have a live stream up in the back ground while I hit balls on my own table at home.

I enjoy watching the streams.... it's entertaining & also informative. When I'm totally free to watch, I try to examine the shots & the results to learn something. I also like watching the different styles & even the glimpses into the player's personalities.

Someday I hope they dress it up a bit, maybe roving mics in the crowd, maybe the commentators visiting with the backers as the match progresses... add some pizzazz..
 
To be honest I don't buy regional events... I support them and enjoy them, and I try to show up in person
to watch them. In fact I'll be doing that in 2 days. But if I can't show up in person I usually don't buy a stream.

It's rarely any 'top' pros. In our tour you get guys like Shawn Wilkie or Brett Stottlemyer very consistently.
Less often you get Brandon Shuff or Mike Davis. They're all very strong players and I enjoy
watching 'em. But I generally don't get out my wallet unless it's guys like Shane, Johnny Archer,
Thorsten, and so on.

I'm up in the air about the next TAR but will probably grab it.

My internet service sucks or I would order more as long as I like the matchup and think pricing is fair.
I like the On Demand feature TAR has because many times I don't have the time or the timing doesn't match up with when the streams are.
 
Depends how fat my wallet is at the time, and I suspect many of us here in this crap economy are in the same boat.

Cutting to the chase JohnnyT - if you'd have asked "does free streaming cut into PPV streams' pockets" - the answer IMO is - I don't know. Free streams bring in new viewers.

1) Do new viewers convert to PPV because they've been exposed to it and dig it?

2) Do possible PPVers bail in lieu of all the free streams?

Which holds bigger #'s - 1 or 2?
 
I only buy marquee match ups. I've bought maybe 15 tar matches over the years, and also accustats from the big tournaments the past few years.

The "only" time I bought a lower tier matchup was the bartram geno match, and that was purely because I was rooting for the underdog and had taken a lesson from him.

I also often buy just the first day of a multi day event incase its a blowout. The only events I buy the whole thing outright are if Efren is playing, or I made a big bet and want to sweat the whole thing.

Even when I make small bets I often don't watch, even when they are free streams. I just don't feel like its worth the time invested to watch, at the expense of sleep or doing something else.

For me, I won't watch a free or paid stream unless its top notch pros. The money has nothing to do with it, but rather the players.
 
If Jesus was playing Beelzebub 9 ball or 10 ball I wouldn't ppv 50 cents to watch it, but if St. Dorothy ( the patron saint of fruit tree growers) was playing the Wicked Witch of the West a 150 points straight pool, or some One Pocket, I'd pay 20 bucks!

So, for me, it depends on the game. :thumbup:

I said nothing about free. I wanted to know if many people BUY PPV that shows only regional tours or open tournaments that just have one or two (if that) top pros and the rest are shortstops and down. Would you pay $25-$35 for that? Johnnyt

No.

I guess I would if I personally knew some of the players, but if I'm going the spend the time and money to watch a match, I want to see top pros.

That's how I feel about it. I can watch regional players on free streams almost every weekend...and I rarely watch them. Johnnyt
