I remember playing Frank in the end of year shootout in 1990. The tournament was held at The Golden 8Ball. Frank took 4th or 5th out of about 125 entries. The reason I remembe is that I kocked him out and ended up getting 3rd, losing to Terry Osborne. Terry ended up winning the whole thing.
This tournament sticks in my head because at the time it ws the biggest tournament I had entered and nobody really knew who I was. It put my name on the map in Arizona, at least until I quit playing for about 7 years due to marriage and life stuff.
Anyway, Frank Robutz was a very good player back then, not sure if he left Arizona for a while, but he is definitely as good as me if not a lil better. I'm rated 10 currently, so all 10's will soon be 9's and Frank should definitely be rated at least this good. Does anybody know if he just quit playing for a long time or if he was living in another state?
Good story Chris. I am unsure if he just quit or not but I knew he did take a hiatus from the game because months back he came into the room and was playing like an 8 because he had not played in awhile. He is playing very well now and is a solid 10.
