I used to have Target Pool and somewhere in between moving it got thrown out. It did wonders for my pool game.

I've been searching for this for a long time and while searching I found that there were several people on here that were looking for it also. I finally found a copy. My buddy I shoot pool with had one so I scanned everything and made it into a PDF.

Did you guys find yours?

m looking for a copy as well. i used to have it years ago. it seems to be hit or miss, and i just cant see paying over a $100 for it! if you still have a pdf copy i would love to get it from you. pm me at odins18@yahoo.com

Does anyone have Kim Davenport's contact information? Maybe he still has some left.

To be technical, Kim's target was too thick, so a slow rolling cueball would roll off as it hit the edge of the target, and the speed of the cueball would be reduced as it hit the target.

Wouldn't a sheet of paper work fine?

I still have my target pool along with a vhs copy of a target pool competition with C.J., Buddy, Andam, & Kim.

I don't understand why they quit making them. There seems to be a demand.

Kim doesn't have any copies

Kim lives up the road a piece from Fresno and so a few of us still bump into him from time to time. About two years ago, my buddy bumped into Kim while my buddy was playing pool in Modesto. Kim used to play a lot of pool in Fresno and so my buddy asked whether he had any Target Pool copies still stashed. Sadly, Kim said he didn't have any and when my buddy asked him how come there aren't any copies available anywhere, Kim explained that the core inventory was lost in a warehouse fire and he did not have any more copies.

So I searched on AZ continuously every single day for months on end and finally located and bought a copy for $125. A few months later, I found my buddy a copy on AZ but his cost $145. Target Pool is absolutely a great game to practice for cue ball control or play competitively on an individual basis or team play. Course 10, 11 & 12 are just bonkers to attempt and if you can score 2pts or more on the 10 holes, then you're pro caliber.

The game really improves your cue ball control but keep in mind that it was intended for 7' tables and is adaptable to an 8' table. But playing Target Pool on a 9' table, as some of us maniacs like to do, well just be prepared for some humbling experinces with Courses 7-12. After Course 8, just attempting Courses 9-12 of Target Pool on a 9' table becomes a real demon and expect to get a lot of zero scores.

Target Pool is admittedly over-priced since it's exclusively just supply and demand pricing nowadays. But spending $125 was well worth the expense to get a copy as far as I'm concerned. I just love the darn game and when I'm by myself, I practice the Courses which is just pure enjoyment. Oh by the way, the target really isn't too thick and it was built to be sturdy. Take the time to "steam" iron both targets, obviously the full size target requires more ironing. But then let the targets hang or lay flat with a weight. I used two large coffee table books with mine and had to press the Targets more than once. But thereafter, don't fold the targets again and instead, I carry the targets rolled up in a short tube. The targets will work just fine if you follow this approach and won't raise where the folding creases would normally be since there won't be any creases from keeping the targets rolled instead of folded.

Target Pool came with a measuring scale showing the distance for placements of targets for ANY table.
One side had marks for 8 and 9 foot tables, the other side had distances marked for 6 and 7 footers.

Does anyone have Kim Davenport's contact information? I wouldn't mind reaching out to him. Maybe get him to sanction a few copies, and get money into his pocket.

A few years a go I decided that my practice just wasn't helping me. I needed to work harder on position..hmmm what can I do? Oh yeah theres target pool sitting on my shelf and never touched since I bought it all those years a go lol I start every day with a different lesson and I shoot each shot 3 times and track my score. I also end my day shooting the 16 critical shots from the pro players hand book which is very helpful. My position jumped 10 fold..it not only makes you more accurate but you see the lines to get around the table much easier. I've thought of copying all the pages of my book and just giving them to people who want them. You wouldn't get the target but at least you could work on the shots.

I've done something similar with paper gun range targets. It is very humbling. Lay a target where you want the CB to land. Play any game this way.

Legal question for any lawyer. Since Target Pool in no longer in production is it legal to copies and sell them or even given them away?
It is a shame that such a good practice device is no longer available. Making copies of the booklet is easy. Making the targets is another thing. I would imagine you could just use a piece of paper.

I don't think anyone would care if someone gave them specially since no one is producing them anymore..

If people are boasting that they'll pay triple digits for a copy, maybe Kim Davenport can be convinced to authorize a new run? A second printing won't hurt the collectable value of the first edition, but could make it affordable for those who just want to buy the book to practice.

I'm not a lawyer, but here is a copyright coverage chart from wikipedia. Maybe this will answer your question below.

Bob Jewett and I used a form of Target Pool on VEPP for both position and safety play. Here's the template we used:
We like cutting out the center and outside, leaving only the outer ring.

Examples of how it is used are demonstrated here:

If Target Pool is enjoy renewed popularity, why can't Kim Davenport be entitled to make a living off his work?

At the current market price, I think there is room for Kim Davenport to still benefit from his work, protect the collectable value for first edition holders, and market an affordable copy. Or another way to put it is if we conceptualize this as a shot on the target, we have a huge a$$ leave here. :-)

This is a great idea! With the online demand for a position play training book, ever thought about putting your drills and exercise in a book form?

I do plan to do this some day, but I have other things higher on my "list" for now.

FYI, I have been writing a series of articles for many of the drills from VEPP. I did the same thing for many of the shots from VEPS a couple of years ago. You can print these articles for free to make your own "partial" book. All of them are available here:

Enjoy,
Dave

He's not making them any more and he isn't making any money off the people trying to sell a $30 dollar game for $150 dollars. I think because of your jerk off comment I'm going to make tons of copies tomorrow and send them for free to anyone who would like them. details to follow to anyone interested shortly
collectable value to me = opportunity to rob people

Evidently the market wasn't large enough at the time it was first made to support continued production. Maybe things have changed now -- including manufacturing in China -- but it would be a lot of work to get more sets produced.

I don't think there is a large collectible value for the first run; I think most buyers want to use the sets for practice.

I think Kim was involved with the development but I think someone else did the design and production. I can't find any record in the Patent Office and I can't find my own copy of TP right now.
