This ought to be an interesting thread

But my choice would be a Szam. But for the money some of those cost, I would buy a plain jane Bushka.

I guess that would depend solely on your budget and what type of hit you like.

I have only played with a Tascarella. It was one of the finest cues I have ever played with. This was after I ordered one...

Can't wait to get it either.

Barry
nothing is better for collecting and most people like the play
which is why they are so desirable

best wishes

Don't think you could ever go wrong with either, but imo.......Barry......both as a player and something to collect.

It really depends

It really depends on your taste...Id say go to a trade show and play with both see what you like...

i will throw in another cue for consideration ,how about a art cantando cue?

There are less than 100 Cantando's, there is around 540 Barrys and I dont know how many tasc's(lots). Therefore this isnt a comparable cue. Cantando's are too rare to compair to Barry or Tasc because they are new ones comming up all the time. No more Canatando's:(:(.

I have 3 Cantando's all of them play as good as a Gus or Barry IMO and very very similar in feel. Art got lots of support from Barry and knew Gus for a long time. His cues are real close to being Szams in that respect. Like extended family is a good way to describe it. For what I paid for mine, compaired to the price of a Gus I stone cold stole them. And Gus's are worht every penny of what they cost(as long as they are priced inline with the current market, not someone taking a shot). They were the best deal possible for a cue 4 years ago. I dont know the current values of them. I havent seen any forsale in a while, but I havent looked much either.

thats how I see it.

As long as you don't overpay, it doesn't matter which you choose. I play with a Gus with shafts made for me by Barry. I don't consider it to be expensive because I can sell it any time for what I paid, maybe a few dollars more. There are a very few cuemakers for whom there is little risk in losing money. Tascarella and Szamboti are two of the leading cuemakers who come to mind. Their designs are classic and look as good 20 years later as they looked new. They play great. Find one that feels like the greatest thing you've played and enjoy. Keep good care of it.

Hhhmmmm

Great question last night i took out one of my tascarellas and it was like love at first sight or should i say feel(lol) all over again of all the cues i play with my tascarellas are really the best hitting cues
(imo) i have yet to own a szamboti to play with for awhile and compare apples to apples when it comes to the hit but i have hit with both gus and barry cues and both played very well and had that feel like you know you got something special in your hands i just wish i could play with one for a few days and really get the feel. Guess when i find the right cue i will have a better opinion....i'm sure which ever you decide on either will play lights out. Goodluck in the quest for the monster player

If your looking for a great playing cue, don't forget John Showman. I've played with all the top cues and his are among the very best.

I LIKE BARRY, AND HIS CUES........ BUT FOR ME IT'S A TASCARELLA ALL DAY, AND TWICE ON SUNDAYS.

I'VE HAD A LOT OF CUES, AND HAVE PLAYED WITH ALMOST EVERY KIND OF CUE ON THE PLANET. THERE ARE MANY REASONS WHY I FOCUSED MY COLLECTION ON TASCARELLAS, BUT PLAYABILITY AND INVESTMENT ARE RIGHT AT THE TOP OF THE LIST.

I KNOW THE BARRY FANS WILL ARGUE THIS, BUT I'VE HAD CUES SIDE BY SIDE, AND I PREFER PETE'S WORK. IT'S NOT SOMETHING I'VE ONLY COMPARED ONCE, I'VE DONE IT SEVERAL TIMES. AS FAR AS INVESTMENT GOES, I AGREE THAT A SZAMBOTI HAS A HIGHER CEILING, BUT I'M UNSURE HOW THE % OF RETURN WILL PLAY OUT, CONSIDERING WHAT THEY COST ON THE SECONDARY MARKET.

AS FAR AS CANTANDO CUES GO...... I REALLY LIKED ART, AND WE GOT ALONG WELL. I HAD BEEN TO HIS HOUSE A FEW TIMES, AND HAD MANY GREAT TALKS WITH HIM. BUT ASA FAR AS THE CUES GO, THEY ARE VERY HIT OR MISS. I'VE HAD SOME STELLAR ONES, AND SOME TOTAL DOGS. SOME THAT WERE BUILT WELL, AND SOME THAT WERE VERY LACK LUSTER. I WOULDN'T BET THAT THERE ARE LESS THAN 100 CANTANDOS. THERE AREN'T PILES OF THEM, BUT THEY ARE OUT THERE.

I like Barry, but all those others are great too. Mobley is also a fine cuemaker.
