Tascarella or barry szam cue

Casn't go wrong with Barry. Tasc's are now being made by Pete's son and sometimes both of them, but there will be more Tascs available then Barry's because Barry is he is a one man shop.
I guess the old adage of go with a S cue, include Scruggs.

Barry is the Son of Gus, and I think a Father Son Team could be wonderful, as Master & Apprentice.

THIS INFORMATION IS NOT ACCURATE.

YES BARRY IS A ONE MAN SHOP, AND THE TASCARELLAS AR A 2 MAN SHOP. BUT PETE JR DOES NOT MAKE THE CUES NOW. THEY'VE WORKED TOGETHER FOR AWHILE NOW. PETE SR AND PETE JR ARE BOTH STILL BUILDING CUES.

One thing that I have not seen mentioned, the preference for a joint by the OP. If you prefer a piloted joint (5/16x14), either a Szamboti or a Tascarella would be fine. If you are looking for a big pin with a flat face (3/8 pin), well Barry will not be making any more. The Tascarella team will build them with a 3/8 pin but their signature hit with their known feedback is with the piloted joint.

As for the best investment, you are safe with either cue you mentioned when you make a purchase at current market condition as items for sale whether they are hobbies or collectables are just not bringing in the type of returns that they brought before the downward spiral of the financial market and home industry. But in the meantime, I do own some Szamboti's and some Tascarella's - all keepers and all monster players. Both are making some beautiful cues lately and the way they play is just better with each year that passes.

Good luck with your final decision.

Both are really good cues, from a collecting and playing standpoint. There is not much more you can say about the name Szamboti that hasn't been said before. Pete's cues are as close to Bushka's as you may find in a current cuemaker.

Barry's cues will cost more on the secondary market, but that means for the same money you could get a very nicely decorated Tascarella.

Bring a bunch of cash to a cue show... try some out. Buy the one you like.

In all fairness both shops (Tascarella and Szamboti) will be 2 man shops shortly. Barry's son is now working with him.

Anyone have an idea what a custom Barry start at(cost)?

Not sure of the pricing but it will cost at least 10 years of waiting if you go direct or possibly longer. That is if he is accepting any more orders.

He builds an absolutely stunning cue. I can only hope to find one someday that fits my taste and my budget. I'm sure it will happen at some point.

Chris, you could play with my Barry if i wasn't so passive aggressive. Awe! I'll let you anyway. lol
