Which Cue?

Joel (Hercek) made a cue for me a few years ago which was stolen so I called Joel, told him what happened and he said that he was told by a friend of mine of the incident. He said he tried to give former customers a bit of priority so their wait would not be so long--that was nearly 5 years ago. The last email inquiry I made was not answered so I don't know if I'm on the list or not. My suggestion for purchasing any of the cues mentioned is to buy a more plain cue if it's for playing and a fancy one for investment and showing off. The wait is nearly always longer for the plain cues because the build time is about the same for a $2K cue as a $5K cue which explains why these cue makers don't offer sneaky petes. An analogy is what one of my friends did when he graduated from dental school. He had always wanted a Porsche 911 so he bought a new one in 1976. Now 30+ years later it is still under cover in his garage like new with less than 2K miles. For sure his investment/purchase has increased in value but he has no idea how one of the best handling cars in the world handles or drives which is ok because it was his money.

not really....
i guess what im saying is im not into collectables.....cue collecting market is hit and miss and if i was gonna invest $3500 it wouldnt be in a pool cue thats for shure....

say you had bought a cue for $3500 get it in 8 years....

now say you take $3500 put it in a savings account and get a measly 4%interest on it. in 8 years your $3500 is worth $4817 in 20 years your $3500 is worth $7779 guaranteed. i guess my question is by the time you finally get the $3500 cue made and shipped to you is it worth $4817 if you immediately sell it?????

What bank account gets a measly 4%? I will take it. You also have to cosider the tax you have to pay on the interest so the compounding value will not be as great.

I totally appreciate you viewpoint, but for people that DO enjoy cues/collectables, you have to put a value on enjoyment.

Every time I walk by my case and pull out my Tasc to admire it, makes me smile. Knowing I waited 4 years and had one of the top people in the world make a personalized item for me, makes me smile again. I put a value of $5 on each smile. Do that 300 times a year, and now my cue is making me money...haha

First off, Joel only requires a 25% deposit...paid when he starts the batch your cue is in...so you are only out $875 for a year or so...you pay the rest when the cue is finished and your satisfied. A cue from Joel that cost $3500 will be worth well over 5K on the open market. It's a no brainer:cool:

so as soon as you get the cue after waiting 8 years its worth 5k on the open market?? youll beable to sell it quick with no problems for 5k easy??

just an example everyone could understand....anyone can beable to get more than 4% on there investments....its not hard to do...and you dont even have to be agressive......

i play guitar i have a martin D-18 custom with satin finish .... wich if i kept it pristene in 60 years or so a grandkid could make a small fortune on it....but since i play the crap out of it. and treat it like my dirty little biatch....shes not gonna be worth much....and i do enjoy playing her...enjoyment isnt about worying about dinging up your baybee IMO. but never again will i buy an instrament that expensive....if that martin breaks/pulls apart im done....ill be replacing it with something much cheaper.

i also have a $400 Agile "les paul copy" that plays as good, looks as good, and sounds about as good as any Gibson Les Paul historic ive picked up for 5k...and i feel good about playing it. would i like someone to give me a gibson historic sure...am i gonna invest 5 grand for one no.....

somewhere i learned that a name is just a name......sure certain names stand for quality....but quality at what price. to me a cue is a cue...if it has the balance you like...and you like the sound of the hit it produces, its constucted well.... then its a good cue.....to me no cue is worth $3500 unless it has $2500 of gold or diamonds in it.

i play pool with a schon stl5 got it barley used for $465 hopefully its the last playing cue i ever have to buy.....if it got stolen or broke id probably replace it with a stl1 or 2 because they all hit the same....schon has the most consistant cues ive ever played with. no way im paying 2gs for a high end schon when it hits just like the $500 model....

Absolutely...

i believe you....but i dont know anyone that will spend 5k on one cue.:scratchhead:
i know alot of good players too.
i guess i dont really know any collecters.

so whats that $3500 cue worth(to a collecter) in 10years or should i say 10 yrs after you have it in posession???

the best hitting cue ive ever played with(and i have no idea why this cue hits/feels so good to me) is a $380 JOSS that A lady friend of mine has but never uses because she prefers the Meucci she has...but she always has the JOSS in the case(that Meucci cue sucks compared to the JOSS ive played with both back to back, i cant figure out why she like the Meucci....i think its because of the Looks of it.) everytime i see her i make sure i hit a few balls with the JOSS and offer to buy it from her....i dont think all joss cues hit this sweet....but to me this particular cue has the best hit ive ever felt. better than the Nova thats a close Second and a old 25 years old Runde Schon thats in mint shape ( i prefer steel in my joints...and dont compare non steel jointed cues to steel jointed ones)...
to me this particular JOSS cue is Priceless

does anyone want to send me there $5000 Hercek so i can see if it plays bettter than the holy Grail JOSS that ive been trying to aquire for 5 years now????

Grizzly Bears

With my Bender Cues, I occasionally receive emails from Mike that show some of the nuisance GRIZZLY bears that they are force to kill in their back yard. One recently attacked a neighbor friend of his and the neighbor killed the charging grizzly with a large caliber pistol.

Bender makes a GREAT cue, good resale and I like the fringe benefits, being an outdoorsman of sorts myself.

Cues are like stock, and aren't worth a damn thing until you sell. Then they are worth exactly what that buyer you find is willing to pay for it.

In other words, pay what you are willing to pay for a cue you are willing to own. Trying to predict the futures of cues is no easier than anything else, and you can loose a fortune as fast as you can make one.

First off most banks right now are offering about 2% on a 3 year CD.You also said you dont know anyone who owns a 5K cue.To most real collectors thats a pittance. There are cues out there that cost 175K.
Would you like a Picasso or a Rembrandt? At those prices a cue becomes a piece of art.If you can afford it you can even play with it if you choose.Thats a lot more then just a bank investment.
