Hello

Sorry if this topic has come up too often but i just wanted to find out if there are any teaching aids, books, dvd that any pool enthusiast here swear by? I am looking to get some.

I have gotten Freddy banking with the beard. I highly recommend it.

Anything else on a must get list?

Best teaching aid that has helped me is watching all the best players play. Buy matchs from accustats, matchroom etc... I have almost every pool match in the world championships from 1999 to 2005. I have watched every match atleast 3times by now, and I have learned so much in pattern play, safety play, how to break, different strokes. I have only been playing since 2004 and I have learned so much so quick watching the pro's play.

One thing I will mention is that books are really good for beginners. Once you start to get to a certain level books really don't cut it anymore (Just my opinion). You really need to start watching the best players play on T.V/DVD

Of course asking pool questions on here helps ;). I ask a few questions here and there.

Save all your money and spend it on a good instructor....

a few hours with the real thing is better then hundreds of hours of videos... you can use the saved time to actually practice and play pool... :D

Check out anything by Joe Tucker. I swear by about everything he's ever come up with. His 3rd eye trainer is the best sub-$20 investment I ever made in my game. His racking secrets was the other best $20 investment ever.

Ron Vitello has excellent papers on diamond systems as well.

Scott: Is this a secret? :D
How long have they been out?

How does one purchase them??

Dennis...Randyg & I filmed the videos in Phoenix, in January. They JUST finished editing the 2nd dvd this past weekend. The first dvd, post production, was sent to us at the BCAPL Nationals last month. We introduced it there, and sold a few dozen. Prices for the dvds are $40 each (includes s+h), or $65 for the 2-dvd set (including s+h). I'm in the process of setting up an 'e-commerce' function on my website. In the meantime, PM me to have them sent to you! :D

Thanks everyone for the input.

Does anyone own the Buddy Hall Dvd "how to go from here" and Clock work system" ? What is it about. Is it useful? It sounds interesting from what i have heard from someone.

Anything else?

I am not really looking for information on fundamentals and basic. I want to learn more advance skills and knowledge. But racking secrets sounds interesting with quite a few people endorsing it.

Joe Tucker's Aiming system

Add me to the Joe Tucker parade....but my personal favorite is his "Aiming System".
Aiming systems have been rehashed in this forum 'till hell won't have it so this is not intended to reopen that can of worms. Let me just state up front (no pun intended), different strokes for different folks.
After playing by feel for my entire life I sort of drifted into Joe's system. Next thing I knew I had a pair of purple and white balls (nothing penicillin couldn't cure:) ) and didn't care about the abuse that I was takin' from the people at the tables around me. And just as Joe promised the more I practiced with them the more my confidence is his system grew....easy, simple and straight forward. How difficult could it be...I learned it! Single best investment I have made (other than my Scruggs).

I use Ron's diamond systems everytime I play. I can't imagine not playing without them!! It will be a great benefit, if ever you have chance, to see him execute a demonstration. If I could recall, I have the record for novice student with 5 straight banks against the long rail. Ron said, I was the only one to do it. Plus! I barely missed a perfect 6 in a row!! It was possbile because of how Ron clearly explains things.

I posted this in a recent break thread but it definitely applies as a teaching aid as it helps teach the most important shot in 9 ball.

I was a weak 4 rating in TAP league that could not break worth a lick just 4 years ago. The Break Rak was the best thing that ever happened to my break. This video is not meant to show you a good technique to break because I'm still just a 6 and a c player. The vid is meant to show you how much breaking practice you can get in a short time. I love it.

Then here is me breaking once after hours of practice on the Break Rak:
