Teaching my gf

I have been teaching my girlfriend to play pool and she has really enjoyed it. It has been a couple months now and she has gotten a lot better. She went from not being able to hold a cue hardly at all, to now actually being able to make a few balls in arow sometimes, which doesn't seem like a lot, but she has definitely come a long way. She still looks pretty awkward though, and I don't think I have the ability to completely correct her fundamentals... well actually I know I don't . So I decided to get her a lesson with a BCA Master Instructor in my area that worked with me when I was younger. Now I don't know if it would be better to be there for this lesson, or if I should just drop her off or let her go by herself. On one hand I think it might be good for me to be around for moral support or just if she doesn't want to be hanging around just a complete stranger for a couple hours. On the other hand I think it would be a good idea to be out of the way so there isn 't any distractions and the instructor can do his job, and maybe she also might be more relaxed if I'm not around at all. Any thoughts on this?

Bring her

Bring her, introduce them, hang around ten minutes or so until they seem comfortable with each other and then get out of Dodge. Come back when the lesson is supposed to be over. She will almost certainly be more focused on the lesson with you not there.

yeah, I think let her go it alone. She knows you support her but she'll feel pressure to perform with you watching, even if you SWEAR there's no pressure. You'll be a distraction. Part of the teacher's job is to make her feel at ease and reassure her if she doesn't play perfect. If he's good at these things she should be all set.

I agree with Hu plus it will be easier and perhaps more comfortable for her to ask any type of question - no matter how trivial she may think it is - if you're not there - thus allowing her to really better understand the game -

And btw - rep to you for getting her that lesson!!!

Agree w/ everyone else. She should do this alone.

Be supportive (which you are) and practice her drills with her as much as she want to... I would not bring them up or force them on her, let her decide when and how much she wants to focus on them. Be genuinely interested in discussing what she learned but I would be careful to do it on her terms. Subtle complements will go a long way here.

I learned a long time ago that there are two things you don't try to teach a wife or a girlfriend. How to drive a car and how to play golf. I believe pool could be included in that to.

Just let her go by herself. Why do you have to drop her off? It isn't as if she is going to a dentist or hospital for surgery.

I don't think you need to be there as if she was attending her first day in kindergarden.

If you drop her off it is as if you are taking her to some kind of punishment and it should be an enjoyable experience.

When you leave her for the lesson you might as well go order her a nice low end cue.

In the case of my wife first it was a lucasi(APA 2) then a Joss(APA 4)
she's now shooting with my old Schon (APA 6)

and one other recommendation never gamble with her if you want to lose money to her just marry her
