Team USA telling results at the US Open?

That may have been the best banks finals ever! I think it was, impressive play by both Busty and Sky! Lot's of fun watching.

The banks final was Orcullo over Bustamante, a win that set Dennis on his way to Master of the Table. As you note, it was a fantastic match.

The pictures shown are of the banks ring game, in which Skylar ultimately outdueled Bustamante for first place. It was breathtaking!

Wow, JAM, great pictures. These pictures from the 2014 Derby City Banks ring game depict one of the Derby's greatest ever moments. Bustamante was brilliant, Skylar was even better. Bustamante was noticeably impressed!

In bank pool, it seems likely that Skylar Woodward's name will, one day, be mentionable with Eddie Taylor and John Brumback.

It will be more than bank pool, sjm. I think he is just at the beginning of his peak. He just beat World Champion Alex in 9-ball. Check out his 1st place wins on the AzBIlliards Leaderboard.

He's not a one-trick pony. He plays all games on any equipment, just like the Filipino champions. This kid has breathed pool his entire life, from Buddy Hall country. He studied the masters as a young'n, and now it's paying off. I don't think anybody can stop him on his way to greatness in the pool world.

Quite right. I've seen him live many times, and he's on his way to something special.

As a junior, he triumphed at the SBE, winning the biggest prize.

Some irony here. When I was a kid, there was this guy from NJ who played all the games well by the time he turned 20.

His name was Allen Hopkins!

Sky beat SVB in the finals at Smokin Aces. SVB did not play in the One Pocket event there because he was playing in the World Cup of Pool in England.

We can't be a results picker and base the strength of these guys on just the first round. However, they got a second shot at the golden ring, so we'll have to see how they all do.

I think Skyler Woodward must represent Team USA. Mark Wilson labeled him a "bar player" numerous times. I think he needs to rethink this.

Sky for Mosconi Cup. We need him.

I agree 100% on Skyler Woodward! Great Player. If I remember correctly did Sky play a bar table match against Appleton where he lost the lag and they broke and ran out the set? 5-4 Appleton (9 break and runs in a row). Sky certainly has the mental toughness to get it done!

Billy Horschel and Chris Kirk would have been great picks for the US Ryder Cup team, but they got hot right after Tom Watson's selections were made.

I think the Sky scenario is the same; let the MC team Mark Wilson selected be for now. Sky will be on many MC teams in the future. Let's not upset the apple cart anymore than it is...

How about mike dechaine not being on the team ?

This is the biggest joke of all. I don't know mike very well personally, but have been around the game a long time and i don't think any of our prospective players(mosconi cup) besides shane of course can get up there and beat mike for the cash. Does anybody really like schmidt, bergman, hall etc.. Over mike playing 9 or 10 ball a long race or ahead set? Come on.

Or shuff.really. Again not trying to put down our players that are going to be named to our team, im gonna pull for the usa regardless i just know mike d. Is a better player (rotation pool) than any of these guys.

Good point and I've made the Horschel observation before on this forum.

Still, this is a tricky matter because pool is not even remotely similar to golf.

In golf, the top players probably spend about 125 days in the same place at the same time, so they spend huge amounts of time together. There's a tourney every week, and the pro-am makes a tourney a five day affair. Every top golfer has a personal coach and that coach, more often than not, is present when the player competes. The guys who make the Ryder Cup team all know each other well.

In pool, there aren't many tournaments so the players don't have many events to play in any many restrict themselves to the tourneys to which they can drive. Few of them have coaches. Building camaraderie and coaching are much bigger challenges in pool than in golf, and that's why there is value added in picking the Mosconi team so early.

Very tricky subject, but overall, I think Mark Wilson did well to choose his eight candidates early, giving them the opportunity to bond and to train together. As I've noted before, I'm very grateful to Matchroom for naming our coach in January.

Sossei lost to a guy who was 259th on AZB in 2009. He made 500 bucks last year and nothing in 2014. Mosconi contender...you must be joking? He lost to a AA player in the NJ state 9 ball 2 weeks ago.
Guys like Dechaine would destroy him and these guys he loses to. Wilson is gonna look like an idiot at Mosconi.

I think that Mark fully expects to lose to the euros but he is making a point that he wants team players that will conduct themselves well. I said in another post, there are no replacements for Archer / Strickland / Hall / Seigel / Varner out there aside from SVB and maybe Mike Dechaine.

Campaigning for Sky for next years Mosconi Cup is a good idea. I'm sure Mark had his reasons for not picking Sky this year that go beyond him being labeled a one trick pony. Mark has made it clear, months ago, as to the process this year for picking the team. Pushing for a player outside that process only causes more dissension in American pool which I am sure we can all agree is not needed.

Beyond that, people like takeitdown that disrespectfully call someone like Mark Wilson an idiot need to simply learn some respect. It is okay to not agree with someone but Mark Wilson has earned respect from all his accomplishments in pool. To hide behind some Internet fence and throw pot shots is beyond my understanding.

The Mosconi is a team event. I think everyone would agree that Mike DeChaine is the second best talented US player. But his history, whether by truth or exaggeration of his actions, made him crossed off the list this year. I know Mike has worked hard on his game and also on his image to improve on his chances of being chosen next year. People that keep bringing up players such as Mike D and being left off this year simply can't see the forest thru the trees.
