Tell me where to go

I am a CPA/APA league player who is an SL4. I registered onto this forum thinking it was a great place to share my fanaticism and learn skills to become better. Yes, I understand that was a mistake. Can the members here suggest another forum where this might be accomplished? It’s too bad this one doesn’t have a “banger board” where lower level players could post their small victories like running out for the first time and such.

I’d also like to suggest that a sticky be created to clearly outline who this forum is for so that others like myself can be dissuaded from joining.

Edit:
I confess that was too much drama and over the top. I snapped which reveals my mental game needs much improvement, but I think it does reflect the frustration that some novice players may feel. See also post #28.

I am sorry you think like this about the board. I believe the majority of the members are interested in pool and are willing to help. Like a reflection of society we do have those members who are not helpful.

Why don't you give it another try?

I ask as well, Todd. Who is this forum for?

My understanding is that it initially was a place for Arizona players and then grew to be a major(?) part of the online pool community. Now it seems to have developed into a higher skill, professional level membership forum. That is why I ask if there are other forums for lesser skilled players.

What happened, did someone say something you didn't like? This forum does not have a requirement of skill level at pool, to participate. Therefore, it's for everyone.

You do require a thicker skin though, because there are some people here that probably don't have friends, or live at home with no job, and their sole function is to try to push people's buttons. Then you have a pretty good sized group, that love to argue. They will argue about anything and everything. Just as long as their spouting off about something.

So don't let someone run you off. There can't be a person alive that didn't get a big kick out of the first rack they ever ran. If you got something to say... say it! There are going to be some that enjoy what you have to say, some that want to argue, some that want to tell you how stupid what you said is..... just ignore the others and have conversations with the ones that seem interested.

Welcome to the forums.... You take what YOU want out of the forums, DO NOT let the forum users take what THEY want out of YOU.:)

If you want to talk to lower handicap players or share small victories there is nothing wrong with posting a thread exactly like that. As for this just being a forum for higher skill players and pros that's entirely not true. My take is there is a healthy cross section of all abilities just like in the pool halls on here. I've also always considered the best way to improve your game is to play and talk with people better than you. Give the site a chance. Just my humble opinion for what it's worth

Pro level membership? Trust me, there are a lot more lower level players on here than you might think. I see where you're coming from though. There is a lot of dirt to wade through, but there is gold in these hills.

I hope you don't leave. This forum has it's share of trolls, but it also has lots of people who know what they're talking about. I've picked the minds of many great players here and learned a lot over the years. I've also learned from players who aren't very good, but learned something and shared.

That said, I don't think I've ever seen a forum dedicated to strictly lower-level players. You should feel free to post up ALL of your milestones in your pool-related adventures. I like to read the threads from people tooting their own horn.

To be clear, I am not suggesting people “be nice”. It is online and anything goes. We all know that. The insults to league players can be ignored, but they do suggest that this is not the forum for everyone whether thick-skinned or not.

Where are you seeing this?

Please excuse my ignorance, but I don't know what you're talking about.

AlinEdm;

I agree with Tony in MD that you should give it another try.

I can certainly remember a number of times where lower skill level players have posted an accomplishment or a question and received very good and supportive responses.

There is an incredible amount of info and knowledge sharing that goes on here and it seems like everyone, regardless of their skill level, should feel welcome to participate.

If you have a question you want answered, simply pose it on a new thread and I'd be very surprised if you didn't get some of the same kinds of helpful responses as I mentioned above.

Does the forum membership generally come across to you as mostly elite players? I can assure you that there are plenty of SL4's and lower who frequent az.

Best,
Brian kc

Dude, There are lots of people on here who will help you. If you want to gloat about your 1st run out , you might get patted on the back or you might get offended. There are players of all calibers on here, You have to take the good with the bad. Most people on here get offended at one time or another. Just the way it is
Good Luck

It is a pool forum there is no skill requirement to be a member. That said because a lot of posters are anonymous some would lead others to believe they are better then others.

You have that on the internet, e-dicks are larger then the real thing.

Admittedly, my morning posts lack perspective, and I should choose not to read every thread on the main forum. Perhaps I’ll stick to “ask the instructor”. It is encouraging to hear that posting the small steps that lower ranked players make will be tolerated.

@peterskw: Yes, that helps clear things up.

This forum can be like a world size pool room. There are skill levels all over the board. The funny thing is that many top players don't post because of the same stuff that is giving you second thoughts about the forum. My suggestion is to roll with the punches and take advantage of the good stuff and ignore the rest. There is lots of valuable information to be obtained. Use the search functions and if that doesn't work then make a thread. Maybe you can email Mike and get the ball rolling for a category on lower skill levels to post accomplishments. Hang in there, I think you will be glad that you did.

..anyways..welcome to the forum.
Tramp Steamer and I will watch your back...us vessels gotta stick together.
Some members form 'cliques'...we can form a 'fleet'.

...and a lot of members are like me, been playing for a long time but
can still remember my first shot...chipped whitey onto the floor.
...and a lot of us support leagues.

I think you're just trolling "Pocketpoint".

Some people do very well in showing their ass when no one can see them (although admittedly, some would probably do so in person). There are people who look down on leagues as if it were a lower level of play, but those people are also at my local pool room.

I believe for every person you find insulting a league, you will find many more in support of them. The issue is negativity sticks out and those posters are seen as more vocal.

Welcome to the forum. If you want to stay we would love to have you. Pool is a very small community, even smaller when you start getting into it "hard core". Try not to be discouraged. There are times when I feel the exact same as you and wonder why I even show up here, but there is good here and you will learn a lot if you stick around.

@pt109 It is a photo of a ship damaged by a mine from a book I clipped decades ago but no longer have. I use it as a reminder that nothing is invincible, or that you can take a hit and still float.
