Here's the deal.I've been playing quite a bit of 10b over the last few months. On occasion the rack simply will not bust.No obvious miscue and the contact on the one sounds fine or normal....but bleh...a few balls might squirt off a few feet, maybe one gets two rails, but most just kinda stay very close to the original postion (or pretty close).

This is not a soft break I'm talking about.I'm talking grown men with years of experience..... crackin' em pretty good ....and nothing.

FWIW its not all the time, not even close. Most breaks go as expected. If I had to guess I'd say one in 15 or 20 racks acts like its dam near glued. Its happens enough to cause some discussion at the table and often enough for me to ask here.

It happens if I rack,or someone else does. Its a perfectly random event. The table is covered in six month old 860 and doesn't have any issues that I can see that might contribute.

Is there a way to slug rack 10b that we do on accident from time to time?

Anyone else have any idea about what the hell I'm talking about (is it common)?

It's a pretty confusing sight to see and its a terrible way to start a 10b game...I'd like to avoid it if I can,but I have no clue.

The 2nd row of balls (the 2 balls in front of the 10 ball) are not touching the 10. Could be dents in the cloth making them roll after the rack is removed, or could be the rack itself.

You obviously have a space or spaces where balls are not touching in the rack. Do you only look at the head ball and the two behind it?

There's a lot to write on what it probably is and how to fix it. Maybe someone whos not tired will feel like writing it all.

Make sure the entire rack is frozen. We play a lot of 10b back here in the islands. On a Brunswick Metro, Simonis 860 and as long as it's a power break, the balls seem to go all over the place! Try breaking from the box.

Check for any indentations on the table underneath the cloth. Check the ball sizes for any discrepancies.

Try it again on a different table.

Slug racks are usually a result of bad racking and worn out equipment.

I have the same problem and it's probably more often than 1 in 15 or 20. On a slow barbox sometimes it's 2 out of 3.

Every rack of 10B is a slug rack to me. The 10B break is infuriating to me...I would be happy for a 20% success rate for making a single ball. How SVB & Alex can regularly pocket 2-3 balls is way beyond me.

I bet Joe Tucker can shed some light on this question.

I was going to mention Joe's video, which shows that the balls around the 10-ball must be touching in order to get a good reaction. Basically the front 6 balls must be touching each other and the 10-ball, but more importantly the middle of the rack must be touching which also applies to 8-ball given that they are both triangular racks.
