Thank You, Smokey

reality

let me tell you about rocket (eric).

he LOVES these kids.

he DONATES his life and time to them.

his boss is Jason - and privately 1 on 1, Jason could say enough wonderful things about rocket.

i can't write such a wonderful story as rocket. it's beyind my literary abilities.

just know this - this story is more about him than me.

and that's the facts.

That was a nice post by Rocket.

I missed the threads with Smokey but one has to admit that he has done some very fine deeds.

For me what he did for the kids goes a long way.

Hope Mike Howerton sees fit to reinstate Smokey and I hope Smokey keeps a bottle of water handy for when he gets hot.

Rocket354...Wow...I had no knowledge of this generous action by Smokey, and it sure is great to see! I have done many pro bono exhibitions for charitable organizations around the country (including Boys & Girls Clubs of America), and I'd like to make the same offer to your club in Las Vegas. I come through Vegas at least 2-3 times a year. The next time I'm coming through, I'd love to come to your club and spend the afternoon with your kids...showing them some trick shots and doing some teaching. It can do nothing but help increase awareness, and help the kids learn to respect the equipment all that much more (which I'm sure you've DRILLED into them! :D). Hopefully we can get some parents involved as well, to teach THEM how pocket billiards IS educational, and can help their kids 'stay on the straight and narrow'! Please PM me with your real name and email addy, so that I can put you into my calendar, and give you time to promote the event, when I have firm date!

Smokey, you're the kind of guy who doesn't need to talk much. Your actions speak volumes but thanks for the nice words about the POW-MIA cue.

Hope to meet you one day.

It's good to see generous and loving behavior rewarded. Kudos to Mike for being willing to give a guy a break and another chance.

And, of course, welcome back Smokey. It seems you have a lot of heart to give to deserving folks so I know you'll be an assett to the az family.

Seems like rocket354 deserves some mention here also as he stepped up to help a deserving person.

Thank you, Rocket and Azb'ers

this whole thread is really too much about me. it shouldn't be. it's really wrong. no need to ask why, please just accept the fact that for me, that's the way i feel, the way i look at life. i am sure (hope) you will understand. i know most of you will.

i have to write this though, my last post on this thread, so i can pay proper respect where it is truly due. "Respect" - 'the word itself' - i am sure i know a thousands times 10 words - but that word has a special meaning for me.

and proper Respect is due is to "YOU" each and everyone of "YOU".

we all have our ways about us (idiosyncrasies), my way (right or wrong) is to always pay RESPECT.

when i don't see it - regrettably, i sometimes "lose perspective". I apologize for my shortcomings in life. really i do. i just try my best. and i am really sorry for my transgressions.

but: please make no mistake; all of YOU that i have met on this forum are "Unbelievable"!! and YOU have made me a better man. this is not a defense for my improper behavior, but a word of thanks for what i have learned here; from YOU. there are too many of you to thank, but you know who you are. some by a post, some by rep. some just in your heart. and it's all the same to me. and i sincerely thank you!

rocket: well what can i say? please don't be angry but i must quote your email:

rocket said so many things, but in a personal email he told me as follow:

The boys and girls club is going great. The pool tables are always in use. When I first got there I had no problem playing on a table at any time, now they're never free (I always defer to any kid who wants to play, of course). I've been helping some of them and we easily have half a dozen that have real potential--meaning they both love to play and are progressing. A few are better at 12/13 years old than I was at 18 (not that I was a world beater, but still).

They actually had what they call Game Room Sectionals a few weeks ago. What it is, is all 8-10 or so clubs in the valley send a team and they have inter-club competitions. They have three age groups, 7-9, 10-12 and teens, and all the clubs compete. They play pool, ping pong, checkers, bumper pool, cup stacking, and a few other events.

I am very proud to say that thanks to having top notch equipment, our club was chosen to host the event, and also thanks to the equipment, three of my prot?g?s performed very well. We had a first place in the teen division, and both first and third place in the 10-12 division. (only two kids play from each club for each age group).

please note: ALL of what you thought was my kindness was due to rocket. where do you find people like him - now i know where. it was HERE. right here on AzB.

he has earned my RESPECT and hopefully yours too!

all the best,
smokey
