For better or for worse, I spend a lot of my spare time during the days reading this forum (and occasionally posting).

I guess I'm at a point in my pool life that I want to say thanks to most all of you for getting this started.

I first touched a non house cue 6 months or so ago, and had it not been for reading on AZ it may have taken me a lot longer to develop the interest (or should I say obsession) I now have with playing pool.

There is a lot of good information and even sometimes a great community on this board.

My skill is progressing steadily which is thanks in part to the resources available here.

No one needs personal details, but sometimes life gets real hard and recently I've found a haven in playing pool with some friends and just taking my mind off of the hard stuff.

So thanks for making me a certified pool nut.

Now who's ready for some cheap sets?:p

Yes there is more Billiard info on here than any ten sites. For people that are only playing six months or less...make sure you always get a second and third opinion of a question that is an important basic to the game. If you get the wrong answer you can stay a C player forever. Johnnyt

Thats why I think there should be a forum for beginers with questions answered only by those that have a good track record, an instructor, or some of the pros(not me). Too many people on here give flip answers to questions from just starting players, or they give wrong advice on purpose. They seem to forget that we all were in the same boat in the begining. This is good advice and I agree wholeheartedly. Fortunately for me, I have years of experience on web forums as well as undying curiosity, so I rarely accept answers without either filtering them through my internal b.s. filter or testing the theories myself.

Just like with any forum it is easy for new members to be led astray by misleading or misguided information.

I haven't played there yet. I'm in Encinitas, I play APA 8-ball and 9-ball out of Pacific Q Billiards Club on Encinitas Blvd.

I've been wanting to check out On Cue, maybe sometime soon.

Mechanical enginner ..... hmmmmm. Have you looked at Dave's stuff in Billiards Digest?

I know of nothing that takes my mind off of the rest of my world like pool does. I get immeresed in total concentration while at the table.
 
I would like to say thanks also. I spent a lot of time the past year or so reading the forums & looking at the videos & pictures. finally decided to register and signed up as a club member....

If you're referring to Dr. Dave, then I have read many of his articles on his website. I haven't gotten into the printed versions yet.

Jack, Good word choice "obsession". However as we both know, there are other factors involved. Youth = careless fun,--- Marriage and children=
Responsibility,---Good decisions = Contentment in later life.--- Back to
Obsession = a good way to pass the time when you get too old to fire the 9-ball in. Lets hope all the youngsters reach a level of contentment by
doing the right thing at the right time. Funny how the older you get, the
smaller the pockets are? (or have you noticed)
