The other day I saw something from Dave's VEPS samples that I didn't know.

Today the situation came up where I needed it, and I excitedly told my buddy "look, this is that thing I just learned about the other day. See how the 8 can't be made in the side without fouling? But I can spin it in. Before I woulda tried to spin it in way out at the edge of the cue ball and super soft. But now I know to go with more moderate left and make sure the CB is sliding."

My buddy was too polite to yawn and would probably blow his brains out after 20 minutes of instructional videos, but I barely made it (managing not to embarrass myself by giving a long speech and then dogging it).

I was supposed to have fallen on the corner to complete the B&R, and probably should have shot it there... but it was the perfect setup to test this out.

PS: I shot the whole evening looking at the CB last and it really works fine. I might be a convert.

I'm glad you got to put something you learned to use. But next time, shoot it in the corner. :angry: :D

I would have liked your example better if balls were blocking all other options. :wink:

To me dave is an icon in this pool world. His tireless efforts to produce and teach so many different parts and pieces of the game is priceless.

There are so many shots that i do and many other players do that we just do from experience. Dave has broken down these shots so well to allow everyone to understand what is happening.

My hats off to dave and his huge contributions to pool players everywhere.

If you want to find out about something about a pool shot that you don't understand chances are dave has got it documented or can direct you in the right direction for sure.

When i met dave in denver he gave me a copy of his book. I told every player that i worked with that they needed this book. It is like a pool bible.

The time when we learn something the best is when we ourselves decide we need to find out.

When this time rolls around for you it's nice to HAVE dave's info there.......

No apology necessary. I'm sure we have all once said or written stuff in the past that we wish we hadn't said or written.

Muck - haha no worries. A week ago I woulda said the same thing. "cue ball last, are you kidding?" ... the more I try it, the more I like it though.

Dave: In all seriousness thanks again. I'm now spinning in all my shots this way, whether they need it or not; sometimes I use the jump cue even when there's no impeding ball.

Besides the instructional value... the reason I didn't shoot in the corner is that the spin-in shot was very easy to aim: Hit the 8 as fat as I can without fouling. I like shots with an easy-to-see point of contact and line of aim, even if they're sort of trick shots. The cut in the corner was a big fat unknown. I can imagine the contact point standing behind the 8... but move me a foot to the left to get back on the stick and that invisible point is lost.
