Thanksgiving What would you do here??

Anymore given the state of my bank shot vs the state of my cut in the side shots I would have to go with the cut.
 
Well, I don't like it regardless. I think I have to elevate my cue to bank, and that reduces my odds, but considering the lesser opening of side pockets on any bar table, much less a Diamond (never played on a Diamond Bar Box), I'd still fire at the bank...Tom
 
I personally would attempt the cut and hope I don't scratch in the process...It appears that the CB would clip the 5 and send it toward the 2...I would play the speed of the shot such that it would leave the 5 near the 2 and hopefully make the run out a bit more difficult (in case I missed)

My first indicator for cutting the ball is that the 8 is in the equivalent area as the rack area...that is an indicator (to me) that the ball is readily makeable in the side...

My second indicator is that the CB is up near the rail...banking from there becomes a bit more difficult...

Not to mention that the bank is not on a natural banking track line....as I see it anyway.
 
I'm banking it. I don't really like bank shots, but I like side pocket shots even less. ESPECIALLY a tough cut like that , on a bar box. On a 9-footer, maybe I'd think differently, but the bar boxes that I play on have ridiculous side pockets.

Bank it either 1 rail in the side or two rails in the opposite side depending on the angle that I can draw the cue ball off the end rail and behing the 6.

I would go for the cut which is possible. With follow to avoid the scratch.

Banks in the side are risky for me, I tend to come up short and there is little margin for error.

Somehow I suspect you banked or found a creative safety.
 
to late to be smart.this is the time to bank for the win.if you have trouble pulling the trigger here second place will allways be waiting for you.

Hard to tell from the picture, but does the 8 clear the 5 to the bottom corner? That would be my choice if it is clear.

Against any good player I will only get this one chance. Bank is a large pocket with the 3-Ball there. I bank very well so here we go...........

This is a Diamond BB so while the corners are much tougher than a Valley the sides actually open up nicer. To me the scratch looks to be looming on the cut so I think I bank. And you are far enough off the rail to get a solid hit on the object ball. Another option that's not as hard as it sounds, is that it looks to be lined up nicely for 2 rails across to the other side.
 
As Todd said, bank it and the game is over.

However, I'm not only banking for the win, but in addition, I'm going two-way by trying to draw whitey into a two rail tie-up behind (or near to) the 6 ball.

If my opponent is coming back to the table, I'm hoping I left him with a problem.

But like I said, I think he's already racking. :p

the shot is MUCH easier than dealing with BLACK FRIDAY lines and traffic tomorrow morning :eek:, so I just knock the bank in cross side and say nice game to my opponent.

My first choice on a BB is the side pocket and feather draw to leave the CB low. Second choice is the fairly straight bank. Third choice is to roll the eight ball in front of the corner pocket blocking both balls.

It is personal preference. I would play the shot I am more comfortable/confident with, and for me that is the cut.

I personally think the bank requires a higher degree of accuracy: Yes, the pocket is "bigger" because of the angle, but it is "smaller" because of the distance. Also, english on the CB, the speed of the OB and the variability of the rubber will affect the OB rebound angle.
