The 100 Shots of Pool

Here’s another one. You did the classic “C” player move. You broke, chose stripes, and ran down to the last ball before hooking yourself. It’s not an easy jump shot, and if you move that 10 without making it you’ll sell out the rack. However, your opponent really needs that 4 ball to break their cluster for the runout. So then you have the option of either making it, or slow rolling it off one rail and making a 3 ball cluster at that end of the table.

This must be one of very rare YT videos I have to playback at x0.5 speed rather than x1.5 (what I do with the most narrative ones)!

Here is one that came up in my USAPL league a few weeks ago. You’re solids and you come upon this setup. Touching the 8 at all is mostly a death sentence. The 9-ball goes nowhere (clean) with ball in hand.

So then a good option is to take their breakout ball off the table. If their next move is the finesse safety on the top left side, they’ll either get the speed control off and give you an open look on the 8, or they’ll get the safety in which case your next move is to tie the 9 and the 8 right back up and take another foul.
Stripes have a pretty easy safe after you give ball in hand.
