I finally beat that #&^#$$% 9-ball ghost three times in a row. 7-5, 7-4, 7-6. Here I come 10-ball ghost. So what if it's a 7-foot Valley:p . Johnnyt

Good shooting bro. that is not easy even on a Valley ! Good luck with the 10 ball ghost that should prove to be a bigger challenge . I think you will have to get out your power break

Thanks, but what power break? I think I started to catch up to the 9-ball ghost when I bought a cheap jump/break cue with that tip I can't spell on it. Johnnyt

I beat the nine ball ghost 3 in a row once and started trying 10 and 12 ball ghost sets to 10.

I'm currently 0-50 or thereabouts.

Gee thanks Bud, I race to 7 and can barely hold the SOB 9-ghost back. If I can beat the 10-ball ghost in a race to 7 a few times I'll be happy. The 12 & 15 ball ghost are REAL hard on a 7-footer...me thinks. Johnnyt

9 Ball Ghost is Mine

Good job beating the 9 Ball Ghost three times in a row on a barbox. Now try beating the 9 Ball Ghost on a 4 X 8. I would do this first since there will be alot of clusters with the 10 Ball Ghost on a barbox and it could get frustrating very quickly!

Thank you all for the kind words, and the good advice to use an 8-footer for the 10-ball. But I'm not quite ready to show my speed in public yet. I figure late Jan. or Feb to give some bar box tournaments a shot. And Smorg, if you still run tournaments at thn old Planet 9-ball or anywhere else, don't put me down as an "A" player again.:) .Johnnyt

Very good job. I have a 8ft valley bbox in my basement with the cheap nappy fuzzy blue cloth on it and i been playin the 9ball ghost off and on for about a month or so and have only beat ghostamante 3 or 4 times out of about 25 sets it has been very disheartening. I enjoy reading your posts and updates on your progress. It kinda helps motivate me. So keep us up to date. And hopefully i can get up the gumpshin to head back to the basement.

Congratulations

I read about you getting your new table. What do you think is key to your breakthrough? Is it improved shotmaking, better cue ball control, seeing patterns, or simply practice, practice, and more practice?

After playing for over 50 years I had to take a lay-off for 3 years for health issues. I use to be a B+ player on a 7-foot bar box and some people thought I was an "A" player (Smorg), but I was not. I needed the 7&8 with 2nd teir pros to hold my own.

When I came back this time to play I couldn't run a 6-ball rack for a week. I bought 2 books on basics and members here on AZ helped me figure out what I was doing wrong. I just had a lot of bad habits that I guess I could get away with when I was younger. My stance was horrible, I couldn't draw the QB 3 times w/o jumping off the table 1 time. I think that the stance and not walking around the table to see the shot and where I wanted to be for the next 2 balls was the biggest key. Johnnyt

Good show Johnny. Keep it going and let us know how it's going. You'll find that extra ball will make quite a difference. It's good to hear that you're taking your practice sessions serious. I know that it is very difficult to hold concentration playing the ghost.

9-1 or 9-2 is a pretty tough thing to do at the nine ball ghost. Go ahead and try 10 ball Johnnyt. If its too tough, you might end up beating the hell out of the nine ball ghost and give it another try later.

Just because I can't beat Ghostamante (great line, Bigdaddy) on a 9 footer doesn't mean you won't, especially if you break well.

Good shooting!

You are 6 ahead on those 3 sets. While moving to 10 ball is great, I'd also suggest playing some 5 ahead sets with 9-ball ghosty to solidify your accomplishment. Ahead sets are a different sort of pressure. I often start out playing where I don't count negative on my side until I'm winning sets routinely in a reasonable amount of time.

If you have the time and stamina, you can work up to 10 ahead, real scoring sets, and get to a point where you basicly know you won't lose.

Of course, if you switch to 10 ball and start winning easily, you can disregard this suggestion, lol. But I'd expect the jump from 9 to 10 to be as tough as the one from 6 to nine. You'll start with one more ball on the table and probably make fewer on the break also.

Thank you all for the kind words and the suggestions. Unkownpro, I have been averaging about 2 balls on the break in 10-ball, the same as I do in 9-ball. Don't forget this just a 7-foot Valley I'm playing on. It does have new cloth and rails and I have the rails lower than recomended for more action from the balls. Johnnyt

Johnnyt,

I would think lowering the rails for more action would make your table that much harder to play on since it's a 7 footer.

So good shooting!!!
